Chalet La Roche de Mio Restaurant La Plagne Review

Roche de Mio Restaurant La Plagne

In the diverse culinary landscape of La Plagne, Chalet Roche de Mio presents itself as a noteworthy stop for those traversing the vast, snowy expanses of the resort. It’s a great pitstop for those wanting a good-sized lunch before heading on up to the Glacier and Live 3000 sector.

Easily reachable via the bubble lift from Bellecôte, it offers a blend of convenience and comfort that caters to both skiers and pedestrians. While it might not claim the top spot for the best food on the mountain, its large, tasty menu and great location ensure it holds its own. Whether you're looking to grab a quick bite before heading to the glacier or simply want to enjoy a moment of relaxation, Chalet Roche de Mio provides a fitting backdrop to your alpine adventures.

Stunning 360-Degree Views

The panoramic views from Chalet Roche de Mio are nothing short of spectacular, offering diners a 360-degree vista of the French Alps' splendor. These views elevate the dining experience, allowing guests to enjoy their meals amidst the breathtaking beauty of the surrounding peaks. Whether you're dining indoors or out on the terrace, the scenery promises to be a memorable part of your visit. When we were there, we sat indoors as it was a little chilly, but the views from the tables were still fantastic.

Dining Options

The chalet accommodates various dining preferences with its dual sections. There is a snack area for those in search of a quick, tasty treat. This is outdoors, with a selection of paninis, crepes, and waffles, great for those in a rush or in need of a sweet or savory snack to fuel their next run down the slopes.

Then there is a self-service restaurant for guests preferring a sit-down meal. There is a large indoor seated area as well as the really good-sized outdoor terrace and deck chairs for more relaxed stops.

When we stopped there last week, we opted for the self-service menu and sat indoors, but I think the terrace would be a great stop on a sunnier day for a hot chocolate with the kids.

Pricing

While Chalet Roche de Mio isn't the most economical dining option on the mountain, the food quality and portion sizes offer a fair value for the price. Our meal, consisting of two adult dishes and accompanying soft drinks, came to about 50€. The kids then had just plates of fries each as we were in a rush and they were 9€ each. In hindsight, they were massive portions and they could definitely have shared one between them (our boys are 5 and 7).

This price point is something to keep in mind, especially for families or groups. However, the overall dining experience, highlighted by tasty offerings and the convenience of its location, can – just about – justify the expenditure for many.

Family-Friendly Amenities

The chalet stands out for its thoughtful inclusion of a microwave, readily available for guests to use. This simple yet impactful amenity is particularly beneficial for families with young children, enabling the easy reheating of food or warming of milk bottles. It's these considerate touches that underscore Chalet Roche de Mio's appeal to families seeking a stress-free dining experience in the mountains.

The toilets are indoors and down a flight of stairs, and are clean and spacious. I didn’t see a wheelchair-accessible or sit-ski-accessible toilet on the main floor. I also didn’t see a baby-changing station anywhere.

Access Information

Access to Chalet Roche de Mio couldn't be simpler, with the bubble lift from Bellecôte providing a direct route to its doors. This ease of access ensures that the chalet is a viable option for everyone, from avid skiers, using their lift pass to non-skiers who can enjoy the stunning scenery with just a pedestrian pass in hand.

That’s La Plagne at the Roche de Mio Restaurant

In all honesty, while Chalet Roche de Mio offers a solid dining experience with commendable views, it might not be the pinnacle of culinary excellence in La Plagne. For those looking for a more exceptional menu combined with similar views, Les Inversens, situated just 200m down the slopes, stands out as a fantastic choice.

However, if your day involves a quick stop en route to the glacier, a stunning hot chocolate stop, or accommodating pedestrians eager to take in the alpine atmosphere, Chalet Roche de Mio serves as a reliable option. It's this versatility and the convenience of its location that solidify its place as a worthy consideration for anyone exploring the area.

See you on the slopes!
