Rêve de Blocs: A Family Climbing Adventure at the Foot of La Plagne

Living in La Plagne with my family, we’re always on the lookout for activities that keep our boys engaged and active, especially on days when skiing isn’t an option. Or if the rain arrives in the summer. While we love the slopes, sometimes it’s nice to have a change of pace and explore other ways to stay active in the mountains. Recently, we discovered Rêve de Blocs, a climbing centre down in Aime, right at the foot of La Plagne. If you’re in the valley and looking for something fun and challenging to do with the kids, this place is an absolute gem. From the moment we walked in, we knew we’d found a new favourite family activity.

Why Rêve de Blocs is Perfect for Kids and Families

First off, let’s talk about why Rêve de Blocs is such a great spot for kids, particularly if they’re new to climbing. There’s a dedicated kid-friendly wall that’s perfect for little ones to get to grips with the basics of bouldering. This wall is lower and less intimidating, with easy-to-reach handholds and plenty of space for them to experiment with different routes. For us, it was a brilliant way to introduce our boys to climbing in a safe and controlled environment. They quickly gained confidence, and before we knew it, they were itching to try the larger, more challenging walls.

The transition from the kid-friendly wall to the bigger walls was smooth. The centre is designed to let kids progress at their own pace, which is fantastic. Our boys felt a real sense of achievement as they moved from one wall to the next, testing their limits and pushing themselves to climb higher. It’s not just about physical activity. Climbing is great for building confidence, problem-solving skills, and resilience. We could see how proud they were each time they conquered a new route, and it was a joy to watch.

If you’re in La Plagne this summer, I highly recommend giving it a try. This is just one of the activities you can do here. For more ideas, see my full guide to the best things to do in La Plagne in summer.

Facilities and What You Need to Know

One of the things I really appreciate about Rêve de Blocs is how family-friendly the facilities are. As any parent knows, having a place where the whole family feels comfortable can make or break an outing. The centre has a small café that serves drinks, snacks, pizzas, and paninis—perfect for refueling after a good climbing session. The food is simple but tasty, and it’s great to have the option to grab a quick bite without having to leave the centre.

We loved the flexibility, too. You’re welcome to bring your own water bottles and snacks, which is a huge plus if you’re trying to keep costs down or if your kids have specific dietary needs. It also means you’re not reliant on the café for hydration or energy boosts, which is handy if your kids are anything like mine and seem to need a snack every half hour!

Now, a quick word of advice: it gets really hot in the climbing room. This might not be something you’d expect, especially since we’re in the Alps, but trust me, you’ll feel it. I was there watching our baby girl while the boys climbed, and I was sweating just sitting still! If you’re planning a visit, definitely dress lightly or be prepared to peel off a few layers once you’re inside. The heat isn’t unbearable, but it’s worth knowing ahead of time so you can dress accordingly. If you’re watching from the sidelines like I was, bring something to keep yourself cool and comfortable—maybe even a handheld fan if you’re someone who gets hot easily.

How to Get There

Getting to Rêve de Blocs is straightforward, especially if you’re already in the Aime area or heading down the mountain from La Plagne. The centre is conveniently located near the E. Leclerc supermarket in Aime, just around the corner from the petrol station. If you’re planning a day of errands, it’s a perfect stop either before or after you stock up on groceries. There’s ample parking nearby, so you won’t have to worry about finding a spot, even on busier days.

The location is great for breaking up a day spent in the valley. Whether you’re in Aime for shopping or other activities, Rêve de Blocs is easy to fit into your schedule. It’s also a good option if you’re looking for something to do after school or on a weekend when the weather isn’t cooperating for outdoor activities. We’ve found it to be a convenient and fun way to keep the kids busy while we’re in town.

Prices and Booking Information

One of the things I love most about Rêve de Blocs is how reasonably priced it is, especially for what you get. For kids, it’s just 8€ per session, and for adults, it’s 14€. The best part? There’s no time limit, so you can stay as long as you like. This flexibility is fantastic for families because it means you can take your time, whether your kids want to climb for an hour or make a day of it. Our boys could easily spend hours there, so knowing that we weren’t on the clock was a big plus.

If you’re planning to visit regularly, I highly recommend getting a card for 10 sessions. It’s a great deal because you can share it between multiple kids, making it an even more affordable option. For us, this was a no-brainer—we know we’ll be back, so having the card means we don’t have to worry about paying each time. It also makes it easy to just turn up and start climbing, without having to mess around with payments every time.

And here’s some more good news: there’s no need to book ahead. You can just show up whenever it suits you, which is perfect for those days when you decide on a whim to head out. This flexibility really takes the pressure off planning and makes it easy to fit a climbing session into your day. For more information, you can check out the Rêve de Blocs website here.

Opening Hours and Best Times to Visit

Rêve de Blocs is open from 10 AM to 10 PM on weekdays, and from 10 AM to 6 PM on Saturdays and Sundays. These extended weekday hours are perfect for families, especially if you’re looking for an after-school activity or something to do in the evening. If you’ve got younger kids who aren’t yet at school, I’d recommend visiting during the weekday mornings. It’s quieter then, and you’ll have more space to explore the different walls without the weekend crowds.

Weekends can get a bit busier, particularly in the afternoons, so if you prefer a less crowded experience, try to arrive early. The atmosphere is always friendly and welcoming, but it’s nice to have a bit more room to move around, especially when you’ve got younger children in tow.

Tips for Parents: Making the Most of Your Visit

  1. What to Bring: Aside from dressing lightly, definitely bring plenty of water. Climbing is hard work, and even though there’s a café, it’s always good to have your own supply, especially if you’re planning to stay for a while. Snacks are also a must, particularly if your kids tend to get hungry after burning all that energy. If you’re staying for a few hours, packing a small picnic might be a good idea.
  2. Best Age Range: The centre is ideal for kids aged 4 and up. Our boys are 6 and 7, and they had an absolute blast. If you’ve got younger children, they might find the walls a bit too challenging, but there’s still plenty for them to enjoy, like scrambling around on the mats or watching their older siblings climb.
  3. Watch and Learn: If you’re like me and need to keep an eye on a younger child while the older ones climb, make sure to bring something to keep yourself entertained or to keep your little one happy. The climbing is fun to watch, but the room can get quite warm, so be prepared for that. If you’re bringing a baby or toddler, a lightweight blanket or a few small toys can be a lifesaver.

That’s La Plagne & Rêve de Blocs

Rêve de Blocs is a fantastic option for a family day out, especially when you want to keep the kids active without hitting the slopes. It’s a safe, welcoming environment where they can challenge themselves, burn off some energy, and maybe even discover a new passion. Whether you’re local or just visiting, it’s well worth a trip down to Aime to check it out. With its flexible pricing, convenient location, and family-friendly facilities, it’s quickly become one of our go-to activities.

See you on the slopes!
