Chalet de La Roche Review: La Plagne Restaurants

Chalet de La Roche Restaurant Review La Plagne

Having spent a long time in La Plagne as a seasonnaire, and then transitioning to family life with 2 boys growing up here. I’ve spent a lot of time checking out all the bars and restaurants around La Plagne! And now, I get to call it work – it’s a hard life! Today, I wanted to share Chalet de La Roche restaurant with you all. It’s one of those spots we've come to know and enjoy spending time at.

Situated in La Roche, it's a welcoming place for a meal, especially after a day spent enjoying the slopes. My favourite things here are the large, sunny terrace and the family-friendly atmosphere. There’s plenty of seating and space for you to relax and enjoy a long lunch in the sun, plus some snowy areas for the kids to run around and play in while you enjoy a second glass of rose! Let’s jump into my full review here.

La Roche Village, La Plagne

You might not be so familiar with La Roche, it’s one of the smaller, and lowest La Plagne altitude villages, and there are only two ski slopes down into the village. The thing it is best known for is the finish line of the La Plagne Olympic Bobsleigh track

Chalet de La Roche is really the central, focal point in La Roche. It’s a prime location that's easily accessible with a large car park. This is the first point that locals who live in the valley will drive up to for a ski day. Taking the La Roche chairlift will drop you to Aime 2000 in about 5 minutes!

How to get to Chalet de La Roche

For skiers, the ski down is picturesque but does require a bit of confidence. The run can become quite busy, and conditions towards the end are often moguled on the steeper, mid-section slope and icy on the last section. It can be a challenge for the more confident skiers among us.

For those who prefer to keep their feet firmly on the ground, reaching Chalet de La Roche is a breeze, thanks to the free La Plagne shuttle bus, a pleasant walk or drive down. This blend of accessibility makes the restaurant a welcoming spot for everyone, from thrill-seeking skiers to leisurely pedestrians.

The Sun-Kissed Terrace: Perfect for Spring Afternoons

One of Chalet de La Roche's crowning jewels is its large, open-air terrace. This sun trap is perfect for those long, sunny lunches that seamlessly transition into relaxing afternoons (and après sessions!). With the sun shining brightly, especially in the spring, it's an idyllic spot for soaking up the rays and enjoying the Alpine scenery. The terrace atmosphere is lively yet relaxed, making it an ideal setting for families and friends to gather, share meals, and create lasting memories against the backdrop of La Plagne's stunning landscape.

There is also a large indoor seating area. So if it is chilly, or the outside terrace is full, you can also pop indoors. The indoor seating area is also large and spacious, with plenty of room for wheelchairs, buggies, and young children to feel comfortable.

Culinary Delights: A Taste of La Plagne

Chalet de La Roche's menu is a delightful homage to both traditional Savoyard cuisine and international flavors, ensuring every palate is catered to. The restaurant takes pride in sourcing fresh, quality ingredients to craft dishes that are as delicious as they are comforting. From the oozy goodness of a classic fondue to the hearty, savory embrace of tartiflette, these local dishes are a must-try.

For those craving a taste of the familiar or something a bit lighter, the menu also boasts a variety of pizzas, salads, and other international dishes. Every meal is prepared with care, aiming to satisfy and delight guests with every bite.

When we were here last, my dad loved the Calzone pizza, which is honestly enormous! I’m not sure how he manages to polish one off for lunch and then head back out snowboarding! The pizzas are all great, I’d definitely recommend them. My husband always goes for the Chicken Escalope which never disappoints and I like their pasta dishes, with the porcini mushroom one being my favourite.

And you know I can’t say no to a dessert! My favourite is usually a cafe gourmand, which is a mix of 3 to 4 smaller versions of the main desserts with a coffee. Delicious! It’s also a good one to share with the kids as there’s usually a macaron or some ice cream on there that they will enjoy.

Embracing Families: A Warm Welcome for All Ages

For families, dining out is not just about the food—it's about the experience. Chalet de La Roche is great at creating a family-friendly atmosphere that welcomes diners of all ages. With a dedicated kids' menu that doesn't compromise on flavor or quality, even the youngest guests will leave satisfied. The restaurant is equipped with high chairs and the staff are both patient and accommodating, ensuring a seamless dining experience for families. It's this commitment to hospitality that makes Chalet de La Roche a standout choice for parents looking for a stress-free meal in the heart of La Plagne.

Service with a Smile: Exceptional Hospitality

The quality of service at Chalet de La Roche is basically why we keep going back! The staff are not only friendly but genuinely attentive. Whether you're dropping in for a quick lunch between ski runs or settling in for a leisurely dinner, you can expect service that's efficient, warm, and personalised. This level of care and attention to detail ensures that every visit to Chalet de La Roche is a memorable one.

Just remember to book ahead. Whilst there is lots of seating both indoors and outdoor, the restaurant does get busy.
