Last weekend, my family arrived in two groups: I walked up with my mum and my baby in a carrier, while my husband, two boys, and my dad skied to the restaurant. The wide, well-marked trails make it easy for walkers, and skiers will find the approach straightforward too.
The restaurant itself is located on a plateau with a gorgeous view of the surrounding slopes and the nearby dog-sledding trail. The outdoor terrace is easily accessible, with plenty of space to park skis or leave walking gear. Inside, the layout is spacious and welcoming, though it’s worth noting that the toilets are down a spiral staircase. While this could pose a challenge for those with mobility issues, there is a baby-changing table available in the ladies’ toilets, which is a thoughtful addition for families with young children.
For those who prefer a lighter meal or quick snack, there’s also a snack shack nearby serving crepes and drinks – perfect for a brief pause before continuing your adventures. All in all, Dou Du Praz does a fantastic job of accommodating a wide range of visitors, ensuring everyone feels welcome and comfortable.

When dining out with a family, especially one that spans three generations as ours did, the little things matter. Le Dou Du Praz impressed me with its thoughtful touches that made our visit stress-free and enjoyable. For starters, they provided a sturdy high chair for our 8-month-old, which is always a relief when travelling with a baby.
The kids’ menu was simple yet satisfying. There were only 2 options, spaghetti bolognese or fish with homemade chips. Both choices included a dessert – originally panna cotta, though they ran out and quickly replaced it with crepes for the kids. This flexibility and quick thinking were much appreciated, and the children were happy with their sweet treats.
The atmosphere is also very family-friendly. The outdoor terrace, where we started our meal, had a relaxed vibe perfect for families. My boys loved watching the dog sledding nearby while the adults enjoyed a glass of rosé in the sun. When the wind picked up unexpectedly and started blowing over parasols and wine glasses, the staff acted quickly, helping everyone move indoors. The transition was seamless, and the indoor atmosphere was cosy and inviting, even if it didn’t quite match the picturesque setting of the terrace.
In short, Dou Du Praz balances sophistication with a family-friendly approach, making it an ideal choice for parents looking to enjoy a quality meal without worrying about keeping the kids entertained or comfortable.
Food and Drink at Dou Du Praz
Now for the star of the show – the food. Dou Du Praz’s menu is a delightful mix of traditional French dishes and hearty alpine fare, and it’s clear the chefs take pride in their craft. The menu is quite different to most of the other restaurants around La Plagne that we’ve visited.
My husband started with bone marrow, the rest of us choosing to save space for desserts! The bone marrow which was rich and satisfying – a great appetiser to kick off the meal.
For mains, the table enjoyed a variety of dishes, including pulled beef with risotto, entrecôte with homemade chips and forestière sauce, pork ribs with the creamiest mashed potatoes, and pork with potato purée. Each dish was cooked to perfection, with generous portion sizes that left everyone feeling satisfied without being overstuffed. The standout for me was the pulled beef, which was tender and flavourful, complemented beautifully by the risotto. The pork ribs were also delicious, the meat was so tender and the mashed potato and sauce were packed with flavour.
Desserts were a mixed bag. While the presentation was stunning – almost too pretty to eat – the flavours didn’t quite match the visual appeal. We tried the tarte au citron, a vanilla and raspberry entremet, and a mango and passionfruit creation called Fleur de Mangue. They were good, and the tarte au citron was the best. But they were not as memorable as the mains.
For drinks, we shared a large bottle of rosé on the terrace – an absolute treat in the sunny weather. After moving indoors, and after the meal, my mum and I indulged in Irish coffees, whilst everyone else headed back out skiing. The drinks menu is varied enough to please everyone, from wine enthusiasts to those seeking something warm and cosy.
Overall, the meal was an absolute delight, with only a minor critique for the desserts. It’s the kind of place where you savour every bite and leave already planning your next visit.

From the sunlit terrace with panoramic views of the mountains to the cosy interior dining area, every corner of the restaurant feels inviting and thoughtfully designed. Despite the restaurant being busy, the staff were attentive, friendly, and quick to respond to challenges – like the unexpected gusts of wind that forced everyone indoors. If you’re in a rush or looking for a lighter bite, the snack shack is a brilliant alternative. With crepes and simple snacks on offer, it’s an affordable and convenient option for families or those wanting to maximise time on the slopes.
