Hey everyone! My family and I are getting ready for La Plagne's Clean Up Day 2025, which takes place on Wednesday 10th June 2026. If you're in the area – or fancy a trip to the Alps – it’s a brilliant way to start the summer.
Summer 2023 was the first waste collection day in La Plagne and it was a huge success. As residents of this beautiful ski resort, we’re passionate about keeping our environment pristine. And it’s always shocking to see how much rubbish has been dropped and dumped over the winter ski season. The Zero Déchet event is one way we can give back to the mountains we love.
UPDATE: The numbers are in on the 2025 event. Together with over 350 volunteers across La Plagne, we collected 1,136 kgs of rubbish from the slopes of La Plagne! That's as much as the weight of a small car!
Reflecting on Previous Year’s Successes
In 2023, we joined 350 other volunteers. In just an hour and a half, we collected over a tonne of rubbish. It was an eye-opening experience and a wonderful opportunity to teach our kids about the importance of taking care of nature. The sense of community is always great to see. And although I knew we’d collected a lot of trash, it was shocking when it was all sorted and weighed to see the scales tip in at over a tonne!
What to Expect on Clean Up Day 2026
The 2026 La Plagne Zero Dechets, Mountain Clean Up Day is on Wednesday 10th June.
Welcome Coffee at 8:30 am
The day kicks off with a warm welcome and a cup of coffee. It’s a great way to meet up with fellow participants and get energised for the day ahead. For us, it’s one of the first opportunities to catch up with a lot of La Plagne locals that we haven’t seen since the winter ski lifts closed.
There’s also lots of kids at the event, possibly more than adults, with all the local sports and ski teams getting their crews involved. It’s great to see the children learning from a young age about caring for and protecting the environment.
Major Collection from 9:00 am to 12 noon
Then it’s time to head out for the litter pick. There are various hubs to meet and start from: Plagne Centre, Montchavin – Les Coches, Montalbert, Champagny-en-Vanoise, Aime, and La Côte d'Aime – Valezan. We’re up at the altitude point in Plagne Centre.
When you sign up for the event, the organisers ask you to bring your own gloves and bag to collect rubbish. However, if you don’t have them, they provide everything for you and the kids.
Rubbish sorting from 12 pm
In previous years, the sorting of all the rubbish has happened in the valley at central collection points. But this year, it will be done at each village meeting point. All the rubbish collected gets sorted and weighed under the guidance of the Mountain Riders team. This part is super educational and helps the La Plagne team to understand exactly what types of waste are most common and how to reduce them in the future.
The kids were really into this part of the day last summer. And I have to say it was quite mind blowing looking at all the trash laid out for everyone to see.
Lunch at 12:00 pm
Then it’s time for lunch! To say thank you to all the volunteers, lunch is provided. It is of course, a zero-waste picnic. This year it will be at each village, rather than in the valley at a central point. After all the hard work, it’s a great way to relax and unwind in the sun with friends old and new.
Make sure you register before to join us! It's a lovely way to relax, refuel, and enjoy some local food with fellow volunteers.
In the afternoon, you can continue on to the ‘Ecologie Partie’ festival organised by the La Plagne Tarentaise Youth Council at the Macot stadium. There will also be entertainment at Antropia.

I’m excited to be part of this initiative again. It’s not just about picking up rubbish; it’s about coming together as a community and making a real difference. Plus, it’s a fun and educational day out for the whole family! Every piece of litter we pick up is one less piece harming the La Plagne mountains.
