SKI GIFTS FOR THE FOODIES
One of the best things about ski holidays is the alpine food! When you are in La Plagne, there are lots of great restaurants to visit. I spend a lot of my time reviewing the best restaurants in La Plagne and I've created this list of the top places to enjoy Christmas dinner in La Plagne.
If you're looking to take a food-related gift home with you. Or find something for the foodie in your life. Have a look at these ideas.
Each village will have a dedicated cheese and cured meats shop. All of these stock a delicious selection of local produce and are also very knowledgeable about each item.
While cheeses and meats can be packed to take back to the UK, be careful when travelling with greasy foods like this – I have had suitcase-cheese-explosions in the past!
- Joya – Plagne Centre. Authentic and carefully selected products. Good for local foie gras, cured meats, and cheeses. As well as selected caviar, biscuits, crackers, chocolates, kinds of vinegar, salts, oils, and more. They also stock Oysters at Christmas and New Year, a staple of a French festive menu. Make sure you reserve your order and are ready for your special event.
- Each village bakery is great for delicious cakes, serving up to 16+ people and smaller individual items. Plus, beautiful chocolate, sweet boxes, and more. I strongly recommend booking your special requests in advance. In peak weeks, the lines for the bakery wind out of the shop and away down the corridors!
- La Table du Berger – in Plagne Centre, next to the Igloo Igloo bar. An amazing little store run by Francis. She has the La Plagne Beaufort – made this summer, in the fromagerie just above Plagne Villages! A must-try! Also a wide selection of La Plagne cured saucisson and charcuterie. You can go to the shop and try them and pick your favourite. You can also buy fondue and raclette platters with the equipment from here – pay for the food, and the equipment is free! Prices start from 12€ per person.
- La Plagne Centre Fromagerie, opposite the bakery. A great selection of cured meats, charcuterie and cheeses. All are produced locally.
- Plagne Centre butcher – in the corridor opposite the ice rink. Pre-order for peak events: Christmas, New Year, etc.
- Le Garde Manger, Aime 2000 – great for local cheeses, cured meats, and saucissons. Definitely worth visiting!
BOOZY GIFTS FOR SKI LOVERS
The most famous drinks from the Savoie region are:
- Genepi
- Chartreuse
Both are digestifs, meaning liquors enjoyed after dining to aid with digestion. You will often get offered a complimentary round of Genepi shots after a meal in most La Plagne restaurants.
The French would enjoy sipping these for a while, whereas the Brits and other Anglo-speaking nationalities will drink them in a shot.

- Joya – La Plagne Centre. For local liquors and wines
- Montmayeur wine and cheese – Plagne Centre. Opposite the bakery, they have a great selection of local Genepi's and wines.
- Plank Studio – Customised Après Ski Shots. This one isn't in the resort, but you can customize it for La Plagne. These shot skies are the perfect gift for the après lover in your life!
- Altitude Gin – distilled just over the mountains in Chamonix, a great tipple with an alpine flavour.
- La Plagne fromagerie, Plagne Centre, good for local wines, red and white. As well as meats and cheeses. They have a Mont Blanc Gin and also a local single malt whiskey, Sequoia!
- La Table du Berger, Plagne Centre, next to Igloo Igloo bar. An amazing selection of local Génépi's – my favourite? Génépi Arpin made by a local family in the La Plagne valley. But you can go along and sample the different Génépi and pick your favourite.
- La Madeline in Plagne Soleil. Have some lovely local tipples. They have a Gin and a Poire William distilled by the Aravis distillery, which I can't wait to try.

- Village Tabac – Each of the village Tabacs have a fantastic selection of home and event decor. The 3 main Tabacs that I would recommend are the ones in Plagne Centre, Belle Côte and Aime 2000.
