La Plagne - Perfect Location

La Plagne’s location is desirable, conveniently located just a few hours from the nearest airport in Geneva.

The road to La Plagne will be a memorable and breathtaking part of the journey as the horizon evolves from rolling hills to towering mountains.

The location is accessible, only a 2.5 to 3-hour ride from Geneva. If you’re wondering exactly how to get there, I have a travel guide for you.

Jen's Top Tip: When you climb the 21 hairpin bends up to La Plagne, make sure the kids switch off their screens and tune into the views. Why? Well, because they are beautiful but also it will help them not to get car sick and to adjust to the altitude.

La Plagne - Great Family Ski Accommodation

Now, I’ll tell you why La Plagne's accommodation makes for the perfect family ski holiday. First-time skiers, or visitors to La Plagne, listen up!

Ski In, Ski Out

The La Plagne ski resort is almost all ski in, ski out. Simply pop on your skis outside your resort doors, and start gliding down that smooth snow. You can even grab a family ski pass. Enjoy your breakfast together in your resort, and gear up to ski out!

And for the beginners amongst you, you’ll have plenty of gentle slopes to learn and practice your technique.

Pistes Access and Views

Secondly, you’ll not only have easy access to the pistes, but you’ll also enjoy 360-degree breathtaking views of the Alps. Being surrounded by snow-covered peaks is a dream for beginner skiers to advanced ones. Trust me; there is nothing like gliding down a ski run while taking in this volume of stunning scenery.

Family Activities and Childcare

When you’re skiing with children, sometimes they (or perhaps, you!) need a break. La Plagne is so fine-tuned in creating the perfect family ski holiday atmosphere that they have many childcare options available. In particular, the Club Med complex within the Aime La Plagne town block provides childcare.

Whether you visit in winter or summer, there are fun-filled family activities. These include going to the cinema, attending ski school, swimming, hiking, and horse riding.

Private Chalets

For a luxurious getaway, look no further than the private chalet options that La Plagne has to offer. You'll feel truly at home in this snowy paradise with roomy, elegant options for the largest family gatherings. These chalets vary from traditional to modern. Relax in a La Plagne chalet in style with your family. I really like SkiYodl for self-catered accommodation throughout La Plagne – and if you enter Jen50 at checkout, you also get £50 off your booking – enough to cover some ski rental in the resort.

Family Dining & Après Ski

You may already know the French phrase “après ski,” meaning “after ski.” Après-ski traditions vary across different skiing holiday spots in France, but La Plagne's atmosphere remains family-friendly here. Late-night clubs are few, as the primary guests here are family.

I know you and your kids will be pleased with La Plagne's range of dining options. Restaurants keep families in mind, offering kids’ meals and providing a welcoming atmosphere.

Jen's Top Tip: it isn't cheap to eat with kids on the mountain, and a kid's meal can set you back up to 15€ for the classic chicken nuggets, chips, and a small drink. This is another great reason to book ski-in/ski-out accommodation so you can head home for lunch.

Ski Safety First!

As you might imagine, as a ski holiday destination that caters to families and children, La Plagne is extremely safe for the little ones.

Each village has gentle ski slopes that are perfect for beginner skiers, whether they’re children or adults. They have also upgraded their beginner lifts to remove the old drag lifts and replace them with the moving magic carpets – so much easier for beginners of all ages!

As you move out of the villages, you can find wide open pistes and spaces to prevent accidents. La Plagne knows how to do safety, and they do it well.
