Bellecôte Swimming Pool: 10 Things You Need to Know

Bellecote swimming pool La Plagne: Magic Pool

As a La Plagne local and a mum who treasures both the thrills of the slopes and the joy of cosy, off-ski moments, I'm always on the lookout for activities that cater to every family member. Today, I'm excited to share one of my kids' all-time favourite spots in Bellecôte – the Magic Pool. This outdoor pool is perfect for a fun family afternoon, set against a backdrop of snow-capped mountains. So, why focus on a pool, you might wonder? Because there's more to ski holidays than just skiing! Amidst the endless ski runs, the Magic Pool serves as a perfect pause, offering warmth, fun, some relaxation for parents and that final energy burn for the kids to sleep well that night! Let's plunge into the essentials that make this pool a must-visit during your La Plagne getaway.

10 top tips for heading to the La Plagne swimming pool

1. Bellecôte Swimming Pool Opening Hours and Seasonality

The Magic Pool operates throughout the ski season and beyond, ensuring that you can enjoy a dip regardless of when you visit La Plagne. Open 6 days a week, Monday – Saturday, from 3 pm to 7 pm. The pool is closed on Sundays.

Remember, these times can vary, so it's always a good idea to check the latest schedule before planning your visit.

2. Magic Pool Entrance Fees

Diving into the Magic Pool comes at a modest fee, promising an affordable addition to your holiday activities. Entry prices are structured to accommodate individuals and families, with special rates for children under 6 and discounts for multiple visits. A single adult entry for winter 2023/24 costs 13€ (18€ with access to the hot tub and sauna), and below are the prices for the winter season 23/24.

3. What to expect when you arrive to the Magic Pool

When you arrive at the Bellecôte swimming pool, you pay at the entrance and are given a key card per person. You then head through the turnstiles to the beginning of the changing area.

Here, you need to take your outdoor shoes and socks off and leave them on the public shelves.

The changing rooms are unisex, with a mixture of individual and family changing spaces. There are plenty of lockers which are activated either with your key card or a 1€ coin (which you, of course, get back).

Showing before entering the pool is mandatory. There are open, public showers and also some enclosed ones for more privacy.

Then, to head into the pool area, you can either descend by the indoor pool steps or out in the outdoor pool. Or though the glass doors to the left. There isn't much space for storage around the poolside, but if you want to take some towels outside or a phone to grab some Insta-worthy photos, head through the glass doors!

Beyond the swimming, the Magic Pool also has the option to use one of the two saunas and the hot tub to add some extra relaxation to your trip. Plus, for families, the pool also has floats and toys available – just ask the lifeguards, who will be happy to help.

4. Swim Gear Requirements

In line with French regulations, the Magic Pool has a strict policy on swimwear to maintain hygiene standards. Men are required to wear fitted swim briefs, while women can choose from traditional swimsuits or bikinis. Remember, loose or baggy swim shorts are a no-go here. Also, don't forget to bring your own towel and perhaps a padlock for the lockers.

To be clear – these are the rules that my husband and I have been told countless times by the lifeguards and receptionists. However, we've also been there many times, and there have been lots of men in swimming shorts (not “budgie smugglers!). So, it does seem to depend on who is on duty.

5. Swim Lessons and Activities

Whether you're keen to improve your strokes or simply enjoy some aquatic fun, the Magic Pool offers a variety of lessons and activities. Swimming lessons are available for different skill levels and ages, including dedicated sessions for children. Aqua fitness classes provide a refreshing way to stay fit, blending exercise with the joy of being in water. For details and booking, it's best to reach out directly to the pool's staff. You can find the most recent swimming pool weekly sessions here.

6. Accessibility and Family-Friendliness

The Magic Pool is fully equipped to welcome visitors of all ages and abilities. With features like a kiddie pool and easy-access facilities for those with mobility challenges, everyone can enjoy the magic. The pool's commitment to accessibility and family-friendly amenities ensures a comfortable and inclusive environment for all guests.

The Magic Pool Bellecôte is also heated to 30C. This ensures comfortable swimming conditions regardless of the weather outside, allowing visitors to enjoy swimming throughout the year.

7. Health and Safety Measures

Your safety and well-being are paramount at the Magic Pool. Rigorous health and safety measures are in place, including regular cleaning and maintenance routines, to ensure a clean and safe environment.

There are always lifeguards on duty who are active and engaging with the people in and around the pool.

There is also regular cleaning throughout the changing areas and shower stations. Whilst the changing facilities do feel a little dated, I can't fault the cleanliness.

8. Nearby Amenities to Bellecôte Swimming Pool

The Magic Pool is conveniently located right in the middle of the Bellecôte snowfront. So it's near a variety of dining and relaxation options. Whether you're craving a hot chocolate, a hearty meal, or a quick snack, you'll find something to satisfy your appetite just a stone's throw away. I'd recommend:

9. Transportation and Parking

Getting to the Magic Pool is a breeze, whether you're travelling by public transport or driving.

If you're staying in Bellecôte, you can easily walk to the pool, which is between the ESF ski school office and the pharmacy.

If you're in Belle Plagne, hop on the Belle Plagne bubble lift. It's a free pedestrian lift – don't worry, you don't need a lift pass, and the lift runs until 11.30 pm.

If you're in one of the other La Plagne villages, then take advantage of the free La Plagne shuttle buses. Trust me, it's much easier to use the bus than to drive and try to find a parking space!

10. Contact Information and Booking Requirements

For the most up-to-date information, including opening hours, prices, and booking lessons or activities, the Magic Pool staff are ready to assist. You can reach them at +33 (0)4 79 09 05 89 or visit the main Bellecôte swimming pool website here

There is no need to book ahead to use the pool. However, if you are looking for swim lessons or to join a specific activity, I recommend calling and booking in advance.

That's La Plagne & The Magic Pool Experience

The Bellecôte swimming pool in La Plagne offers more than just swimming; it's yet another way to create some memorable moments off the slopes. Whether you're looking to unwind after a day of skiing or seeking a delightful non-skiing day out, this pool promises a splash of magic for everyone. Pack your swim gear and dive into an experience that's sure to be a highlight of your La Plagne adventure.

Another of my recommendations for fun family time beyond the slopes is a game of bowling. My review of Bowling La Plagne will tell you all you need to know.

See you on the slopes!
