10 Ski & Winter Skincare Must Haves

During the colder months, our skin tends to get dry and flaky due to lack of moisture in the air. This happens in the UK where there is still a lot of moisture in the air. So imagine how dry your ski is in the mountains when all the moisture is frozen!

Living in the mountains year round is an endless hunt for hydration! So don't worry, I've got you covered! Here are my top 10 products that will help keep your skin hydrated and glowing all winter long.

I use all of these products and love them. So they are tried and tested by me and my family living in a ski resort. I may receive a small commission if you use my links to purchase something.

Join behind the scenes today and get the inside track

1. Gentle Cleanser

The first step in your winter skincare is a gentle cleanser that won't strip away our natural oils. I don't use this every day as IU find it quite rich, but for dry winter skin, it's a blessing! The Elemis Cleansing Balm is amazing and smells delicious! It's also perfect for removing waterproof mascara – another beauty must on a ski holiday! A great tip for this is to get the small travel pot, it lasts for ages and will take up much less space in your travel bag.

2. Exfoliant

Next up is an exfoliant to get rid of any dead skin cells. If you can avoid this on a winter ski holiday, I would recommend it. If you are going to be out in the elements – and yous ski is not used to it, excessive exfoliation may just irritate your skin more than help. However, if you do need to bring something with you, I like the Dermalogica  Daily Microfoliant.

3. Toner

To balance out our skin's pH level, we need a toner. I love the Mario Badescu Aloe Vera face spray. It recently skyrocketed in popularity after being featured by Selina Gomez in her plane travel survival kit.

4. Hyaluronic Acid Serum

Now, onto serums. The most essential serum for dry skin is hyaluronic acid. This ingredient helps lock in moisture and plump up our skin. The Typology Hyaluronic Acid 3% + B5 2% is affordable and effective.

5. Tinted Face Serum Serum

For me, a tinted face serum is a must-have during the winter months. I love that it gives me a small amount of coverage BUT also nourishes my skin at the same time. Because it helps with brightening and evening out our skin tone. My favourite is the Typology tinted serum and I'm the shade type 2. I will say they have limited skin tones available, which is disappointing. But it is vegan, cruelty-free, and packed with antioxidants! Typology is a B-Corp-listed company.

6. Moisturiser

Of course, we can't forget about moisturizer. For daytime, I recommend the Vaseline Advanced Repair because it's lightweight and absorbs quickly. If you can, find one with a pump top so you can put it on super quickly when you hop out of the shower – or winter hot tub!

7. Eye Cream

Our under-eye area needs some extra TLC, too. There is an amazing eye cream from Elizabeth Arden – but it's pricey! So I actually use Lucas' PaPaw Ointment, which is a fraction of the price. But has a very similar feel to the Elizabeth Arden cream. It doesn't have the amazing smell of Elizabeth Arden, though!

TOP TIP:

This is also amazing at night if you need a hydration boost! It is a little greasy though, so just be aware to put in on and let it sink in before heading to bed.

8. Lip Balm

Chapped lips are the worst, am I right? Keep them moisturized with the Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Repair Balm. It's the absolute go-to lip care for me and many of my friends living in the mountains.

9. Face Oil

If your skin still feels dry even after moisturizing, try adding a face oil into your nighttime routine. Again, I'm currently using Typology. They have several night oils. I currently have the Typology Peony blend but have also used the White Rose one which is also great.

10. Sun cream

Last but not least, sunscreen is important year-round, even during the winter! The sun is strong in the alps, and it also reflects from the snow – and also your goggles, so your skin can take a real punishing! I love these sunscreen sticks and they are perfect for putting in your salopette pocket and topping up throughout the day.

Bonus top tip

It's not beauty really, but it is still important on the slopes – deodorant! I spent about a year trying out different sustainable deodorants. Honestly, you can ask my sister about it! Then I started using Wild, and now I use it all the time. It works great whilst I'm out snowboarding, dancing at après ski, or hanging out with friends. I also did have a problem with my order one time and the customer service team was great and replaced the scent I had an issue with and refunded me as well – amazing!

I'd definitely recommend them. Here's a Wild discount link to get 50% off your next order.
