ABOUT

Floe Bar Lunchroom

Winter 2022/23 has seen new owners Pauline and Emilie take over the ownership and daily management of Floe in Plagne Centre. Built several years ago, the venue has never really ‘popped’ in past winter seasons. However, under new ownership, the La Plagne cafe has become a resounding success this winter with locals and holiday skiers.

Specialising in finding the freshest local ingredients, Pauline and the chefs create a different daily menu based on what is available. So check the Floe Facebook page to see what the daily specials will be.

There is a massive terrace with plenty of seating, great for warmer spring long lunches after skiing hard all day! It’s also a safe space for children to run around and let off some steam. It’s also great for younger children, with lots of room for buggies and pushchairs and lift access to the cafe and the outside area. Just use the lift inside the main building – just in front of the tourist information centre.

Floe is open every day from 8 am – 10 pm and opens from 7 am on weekends, making it the perfect spot if you have an early transfer from the bus station just below them.

Lunches are now very busy as this is a go-to spot for locals and those on holiday alike, so definitely book ahead via their Facebook page or call them on: Pauline speaks excellent English, French and Dutch.

The best vegan and vegetarian restaurant in La Plagne?

The daily menu will have several options, a main plus a dessert recommended, but you can choose whatever you want – I often head here for a coffee and dessert!

The menu will always have vegetarian and vegan choices – more than one option. So Floe is a great stop if you follow a plant-based diet in La Plagne. The desserts are nearly all vegan, made with dairy substitutes and delicious. The cookies are bigger than your hand, and the shortbread is a firm favourite with my kids. Even the complimentary biscuit served with the coffee is homemade and vegan.

Floe is not restricted to only vegan or veggie options, however, and does still cater for chicken, fish and meat options. However, their vegan menu options have filled a gap in La Plagne, when many bars and restaurants have very few options other than green salad and chips.

Drinks in Floe

Floe has a lovely coffee menu and uses Otzi coffee beans, roasted locally in Grenoble. The team will make whatever coffee you want and have become experts in making the British coffee demands!

Floe is also fully licenced and has some great local beers from the brewery Sapaudia in the valley and a great cocktail menu. Can’t see your favourite on there? Just ask. They also serve apero platters in the afternoons and evenings to accompany your drinks. So Floe is a lovely chilled spot to enjoy a more relaxed apreès with friends or family.

Fun & Games in Floe

Every Monday throughout the winter, they host a games night from 6 pm. Focusing on the Loup Garou role-playing game, a popular French classic. However, there is a mountain of other card and board games to entertain you available every day. It’s great for entertaining kids or spending a few fun hours if the weather isn’t great.

They also have a selection of local crafts for sale, so if you want to take home a piece of La Plagne, check them out, from local children’s book authors to homemade candles.

And That's La Plagne @ Floe Bar & Lunchroom

If you’re heading to La Plagne, I would add Floe to your list of places to visit. Offering a warm welcome to everyone, they have worked hard to cater for all nationalities and age groups.

Pop in and tell them Jen said hi!

TOP TIPS:

  1. Book ahead for lunch as there is limited space and it is popular.
  2. Use the lifts to access if you’re with younger kids. The lift is inside the main building, in front of the tourist office.
  3. Book your transfer day breakfast ahead of time. Then, you can either eat in or take it away with you. Phone on +33 (0)6 23 65 58 71.
