Mastering the Art of Making The Best Iced Coffee, La Plagne Style

The Art of Iced Coffee Brewing
Welcome to La Plagne, a beautiful mountain town that I call home. With its breathtaking scenery and warm summer days, nothing beats the refreshing taste of a perfectly brewed iced coffee. In this guide, I will share with you my tried and tested method for making the perfect iced coffee right in the comfort of your own home. Whether you're a coffee enthusiast or simply looking to cool down, this step-by-step guide will help you create a delightful La Plagne-style iced coffee that will keep you refreshed all summer long.
To make the perfect iced coffee, you'll need a few essential ingredients and equipment. Start with high-quality coffee beans that suit your taste preferences. You can choose from various roasts and origins, but I find that a medium roast with chocolatey and nutty undertones works well for iced coffee. Additionally, gather the following items:
- Coffee grinder
- Cold water
- Ice cubes
- Sweetener or syrup (optional)
- Milk or cream, or plant based alternative (optional)

Top Tip: I've got this Hario Cold Brew Filter which makes life a lot easier to cold-brew coffee without all the mess. I absolutely love it and it's the best day when I get int down off the shelf at the end of winter, read for summer! Mine is the red, 600ml cold brew coffee pot, but if I was going to get it again, I would get the 1-litre coffee pot.

Brewing the Perfect Cup of Iced Coffee
- Grind your coffee beans to a medium-fine consistency, resembling coarse sand.
- In a large jar or French press, or your Hario cold brew coffee pot, combine the ground coffee and cold water in a 1:8 coffee-to-water ratio. Stir gently to ensure even saturation.
- Place the jar, French press, or cold brew pot in the refrigerator and let it steep for 12 to 24 hours. This slow brewing process will extract the flavours and create a smooth and less acidic coffee concentrate.
- Once the steeping time is over, strain the coffee concentrate using a fine-mesh sieve or a coffee filter. You don't need to do this if you have a cold-brew coffee pot.
- Fill a glass with ice cubes and pour the coffee concentrate over the ice.
- Add sweetener and milk or cream according to your taste preferences. Stir well to combine.
- My personal preference is Barista Oat milk and homemade caramel syrup!
- Voila! Your homemade La Plagne-style iced coffee is ready to enjoy.
Top caramel frappuccino recipe
I always end up turning my iced coffee into a frappé, and the easy way to do this is to throw it all into a blender!
But if you want to try my best-ever caramel frappuccino recipe, try this:
- 2 cups ice
- 1 cup coffee
- 1 cup milk
- Oatley Barista works great if you want a plant-based option
- 1/3 cup homemade or Monin caramel sauce
- 3 tablespoons white sugar
You can then get really extra, like my sister and I did here, and throw in some boba pearls; top it with cream, more caramel sauce and the chocolate treats of your choice! I went for Ferrero Rocher, and she chose Cadburys Chocolate Fingers – both yum!
