There's more to ski holidays than just skiing!

I absolutely love skiing, which is a big reason why my family and I now call La Plagne home. After a full day on the slopes with my little ones (who are four and six), there's nothing better than finishing the day with a cosy meal at one of my favourite restaurants. Afterwards, we snuggle by the fire with a big mug of hot chocolate topped with marshmallows. It’s one of those moments that makes mountain life so special.

But even if you're not hitting the slopes, La Plagne has plenty to offer when the ski day winds down. Après-ski here is just as exciting as the skiing itself. Whether you're into laid-back evenings at a local bar, enjoying delicious French cuisine, or exploring the villages, there’s something for everyone. After living here, I've had the chance to experience some of the best bars and restaurants in La Plagne, and I’m always happy to recommend my go-to spots for a perfect après-ski night.

What is Après Ski?

First, what is après ski? There is no better way to put it than to compare it to that glorious moment during your ski holiday when you take the skis off your sore feet and round two of the action starts!

But I'll stick with the Oxford Dictionary definition, which is “the social activities and entertainment that take place after a day of skiing.” Although there is no set hour for apres ski, it typically begins in the late afternoons and can last far until dinner. So think 4.30 pm – 7.30 pm(ish!). Some contend that après ski continues through supper, while others argue it continues into bedtime.

Nevertheless, the consensus is that it includes frequently dancing to live or recorded music on benches, tables, or outside in the snow while wearing ski gear.

And don't worry; you don't have to pack any additional outfits for your ski trip. Instead, ditch your helmet in favour of a beanie (warm hat!), store your boards and skis, and adopt La Plagne's custom of relaxed, casual ski style whilst having fun at après. Very different to some neighbouring resorts like Courchevel or Val d'Isere, where you will need to pack a pair of heels or hair straighteners!

During ski holidays, it's nearly always simpler for groups to split off and embark on their ski days to reunite later. However, après ski are those leisurely, sunny hours during which friends get together over drinks to share tales of completing ski runs. It's the time to take off your ski boots, talk to your friends, and tell a few tall tales.

Top 5 La Plagne Après Ski Bars

What to expect

When it comes to après ski, La Plagne is really one of the quieter resorts. However, there are several après-hotspots scattered around the bars, restaurants, and cafes.

Whether you want to dance on top of tables or enjoy the evening sun's final rays with a pitcher of local beer, there's something for everyone.

Some of the places I can recommend are:

La Bergerie – party on the piste between Plagne Villages and Plagne Centre. DJs, saxophonists, hype men, and dancing girls. What more could you want?!

La Mine – Plagne 1800. Liv bands for après ski every day. Plus, evening gigs and DJs.

Le Bonnet – Bellecôte. Snack bar by day, après by afternoon/evening!

Le Biollet – Established itself in winter 24/25 as the upcoming après ski on the slopes.

La Grotte du Yeti: New for winter 25/26. Expect big energy, party, and après-ski vibes!

Family-friendly après skiing

Families searching for stunning views, cosy chalets with in-chalet daycare, a variety of après ski activities for the whole family, and access to high-altitude skiing will find La Plagne ideal.

Nothing beats unwinding with a massage, hot bath, hot tub, or sauna in a spa after a long day. My kids love husky dog sledding and bumboard races! And adults can take it to the next level on the Olympic bobsleigh track!

Additionally, Bellecôte offers a break from the slopes with its alfresco-heated Magic Pool on the snow front, the main public swimming pool in La Plagne. Or visit the Deep Nature Spa in Belle Plagne for outdoor hot tubs and a snowy spa experience!

Ride quieter, more environmentally friendly electric ski-doos called Moon Bikes or take off in a parapent from various places, such as Grande Rochette above Plagne Centre.
