A Family Dinner to Remember at Le Capricorne, Bellecôte

Le Capricorne restaurant la plagne

Le Capricorne in Bellecôte stands out as a fantastic choice for families searching for an easy, but delicious dining experience in La Plagne. Living in La Plagne with my family, I've come to appreciate the places that welcome us with open arms, offering both comfort and a great menu. Our recent evening at Le Capricorne ticked all the boxes, making it onto the list of places we’d recommend for family meals but also for adults-only evenings. I could definitely imagine heading here for a date night with Mr T for an evening out.

Finding Your Way to Le Capricorne

Finding Le Capricorne was straightforward, thanks to Bellecôte's well-organised layout. It’s at the far end of all the restaurants on the Bellecôte snowfront. So, if you’re skiing during the day, you can ski onto the terrace. Or if you’re on foot, you can walk along the snowfront easily enough.

If you’re coming in the evening from one of the other La Plagne villages, then use the handy free shuttle bus service connecting the various La Plagne villages.

This ease of access is a blessing, especially after a long day of skiing or snowboarding, when all you want is to settle down for a nice meal without the hassle of a complicated journey. The shuttle service is a lifeline for those of us not staying directly in Bellecôte but keen to explore what its dining scene has to offer. We took the bus there and back from Plagne Centre and timed our departure with the bus’s arrival, and we were back home in Plagne Centre within 10 minutes of leaving the restaurant.

First Impressions and Accessibility

Upon entering, Le Capricorne immediately felt welcoming. The separate bar area as you enter, is filled with the buzz of sports on TV screens, offering a lively start to our evening. The restaurant's interior is thoughtfully laid out, providing ample space for pushchairs and wheelchair access, which is a big plus for families. The modern, spacious toilets with easy access for disabled guests underscored the establishment's commitment to comfort and inclusivity. However, it was disappointing to note the lack of baby-changing facilities, which is always a frustration for families with little children.

Le Capricorne Menu Highlights

The menu at Le Capricorne had something for every member of the family. The snack options, including crêpes and waffles, would be ideal for a quick, easy lunch, or an après ski treat offering just the right treat to wind down after a day in the snow.

However, it was the kids' menu that impressed us the most; at just 12€ for a drink, meal, and dessert (ice cream or crêpe), it offered unbeatable value. The variety and portion sizes were spot-on, ensuring that our little ones were not only satisfied but also got to enjoy high-quality meals. I don’t know about you, but as a parent, knowing that my kids are going to actually eat and enjoy their meals makes me so much more likely to head out for dinner again and again!

The evening menu brought a different vibe with its selection of seafood dishes. There were options like salmon gravlax, octopus, and prawns. All just a little different to the classic Savoyard menus in most restaurants. Our table enjoyed a mix of a perfectly cooked steak with crushed potatoes, prawn wok noodles, and an exceptional octopus with risotto. The risotto, in particular, was my highlight of the meal. It was the accompaniment to my husband’s dish, but fortunately, he let me have plenty of it!

Desserts and Drinks: The Perfect Round-Off

No meal is complete without a sweet ending, and Le Capricorne's dessert offerings did not disappoint. The cafe gourmand and lemon meringue tart were delightful, though I missed having decaf coffee as an option to conclude our meal.

However, the cocktail and mocktail menu more than made up for this. The mojito I chose to start the evening was refreshingly well-made, and arrived nice and quickly! The selection of drinks available has me excited to return and try more.
