The best vegan and vegatarian restaurants in La Plagne

A local's guide to eating vegan La Plagne
Are you tired of the endless search for plant-based food options when you're skiing, on the road or travelling? I feel your pain!
Whilst I'm not vegan, I was vegetarian for a long time, and it was actually coming to France to do my first ski season that ended my vegetarianism. Twenty years ago, it was so hard to eat well in a country that couldn't understand why you wouldn't eat meat!
Fortunately, things have improved since then! But finding a variety of menus can be challenging, especially in ski resorts, where the traditional meals are cheese or meat fondue, cream-based tartiflette and other meat dishes. It's also true that you will likely be skiing HARD and ready for some warming, hearty meals after a long day on the ski slopes.

How to find the best vegatarian and vegan restaurants La Plagne
If you are vegetarian, vegan, or enjoy a plant-based diet AND visiting La Plagne this year, I've done the hard work for you! But if you need to find your own vegan options, here are a couple of my top tips for finding vegan restaurants no matter where you go.
First, do some research ahead of time. Check out various apps like HappyCow, Vegvisits, and VegOResto which is specific to France. These apps allow you to filter through restaurants that cater to vegans quickly. Plus, they provide user reviews and ratings to give you an idea of what to expect. You can also browse blogs and websites for recommendations and reviews from other travellers.
And second, feel free to ask around. Ask locals or hotel staff if they know any places that serve vegan food. Sometimes, the best recommendations come from those who live in the area. And when all else fails, use social media! Post on Instagram or TikTok asking for vegan restaurant recommendations in the city you are visiting. Chances are, you'll get plenty of responses from people eager to share their favourite spots. There’s a great Facebook group: Vegan Ski and Snowboard where people are sharing their specific ski resort experiences too. Definitely worth checking out.
Best vegan & vegetarian restaurants in La Plagne
Now, onto my research and recommendations! Whilst La Plagne doesn't have any 100% vegan or vegetarian restaurants. There are several which have created a solid menu range for vegetarian and vegan diners.
Here's a list of La Plagne restaurants, bars and cafes with a good vegan selection and menu.
- Floe Bar Lunchroom in Plagne Centre. The menu is cooked fresh and changes every day. It is a 3-course setup, but you don't have to take all 3 courses. Check their Facebook to see what's on offer!
- Le Plante du Baton in Plagne Centre. As well as havig several clearly noted vegaratian or vegan options, they also have Halal menu choices. Plus their entire burger menu can be ordered with a vegetarian burger patty. So all of a sudden, you have one of hte biggest vegaratian menus in La Plagne – plus their burgers are delicious.
- Expedition in Aime 2000. The menu changes regularly based on local produce and works with local farmers. They have steaks, fish, dairy, etc., on the menu as well as vegetarian and vegan options. And the chef, Sam, is super creative and happy to make something special for you if you don't see a vegan dish you like on the menu.
- La Bodega in Belle Plagne. A tapas menu is great because you can pick and choose what you want and build your own meal.
- La Cantine in Plagne 1800. Several vegetarian options on the menu can be made vegan. Budda bowls and pizzas as well. Chefs and staff are also happy to accommodate as and when they can.
- Chez Marie in Plagne Centre. Chez Marie is a great option for vegetarians (not so much for vegan diets), offering delicious meat-free galettes filled with options like cheese, spinach, mushrooms, and eggs. The savoury crêpes are hearty and satisfying, perfect for a post-ski meal. The staff are also accommodating to customisations, ensuring vegetarians can enjoy a fresh and flavourful dining experience.
- Le Chairlift in Plagne Villages. Le Chairlift in Plagne Villages is one of the best spots for vegetarians in La Plagne. From hearty veggie burgers with roasted butternut squash to a vegetarian-friendly fondue served with local vegetables and crudités instead of charcuterie, the menu goes beyond the usual token options. The team are also happy to tweak dishes to suit your preferences, making it easy to enjoy a proper, satisfying, meat-free meal after a day on the slopes.
