Finding a genuinely family-friendly restaurant in a ski resort can be harder than you’d expect – especially when you’re dealing with cold toes, hungry kids, and trying to coordinate with grandparents or non-skiers. The last thing you want is to end up somewhere that’s awkward to get to, overpriced or not welcoming to families.
Living in La Plagne full-time with my own family, I’ve tried almost everywhere – often with children in tow, sometimes with friends or visiting relatives, and always with a practical eye on how a place actually works for families.
Le Planté de Bâton in Plagne Centre is one of those restaurants I find myself recommending time and time again – and here’s exactly why.

Location and Accessibility
One of the biggest perks of Le Planté de Bâton is its location. It sits right on the snow front in Plagne Centre, which makes it an easy win for skiers who want to stop for lunch without trekking too far from the lifts.
If you're on foot or pushing a buggy, you can also reach it through the Pelvoux gallery – no need to navigate icy steps or awkward routes in ski boots. For wheelchair users, this indoor route is the smoothest access point, and once inside, there’s space to move around comfortably.
Whether you’re a skier, pedestrian, or planning lunch with older relatives, it’s one of the easiest spots in resort to reach.
It's run by La Plagne legend Peter. Fun fact: Peter, the owner, was once at the helm of the old Domino's Pizza in Plagne Centre, so you might recognise his face!
A Solid Family-Friendly Choice
Le Planté de Bâton is spacious, relaxed, and lively. It's the kind of place where no one raises an eyebrow if your toddler drops chips on the floor or your ski-booted eight-year-old wants to order their own meal.
There are high chairs available, plenty of room for families, and the noise level is forgiving if your children are a bit overexcited after a full day on the slopes.
It never feels too formal, but it also isn’t chaotic – a great balance when you’re dining as a family.
Le Plante de Baton Menu Options
The menu is broad enough to keep everyone happy. You’ll find all the Alpine classics – fondue, raclette, tartiflette – which are great for sharing and warming up after a chilly morning on the slopes.
But if you’ve got less adventurous eaters, they’ve got you covered with burgers, pasta, steaks, and generous salads. There’s also a children’s menu with simplified versions of the main dishes, which makes ordering super easy. Choose from pasta carbonara, bolognese, pizza, and chicken nuggets.
Pricing is pretty reasonable for a slopeside restaurant – not cheap, but you’re not paying over the odds for mediocre food either. Portion sizes are generous, and we’ve always felt we got good value.
There are also good dessert options, with gauffres or waffles, ice cream, café gourmands, and more.
Dietary Needs? They’ve Got You Covered
One of the things I really appreciate about Le Planté de Bâton is how accommodating they are when it comes to dietary requirements – something that can be a real stress point on family ski holidays.
Whether you’re gluten-free, coeliac, vegetarian, vegan, or looking for halal-friendly options, the staff here are happy to help. They understand the importance of getting it right, especially for coeliac guests or anyone with allergies.
They’re used to adapting dishes where possible – for example, switching out pasta for a gluten-free version, offering salads or grilled meats without sauces, or helping to build a meal that’s veggie or vegan-friendly from sides and mains. While it’s not a totally halal restaurant, they’re respectful about ingredient sourcing and have several options on the halal menu. Plus several other vegan and vegetarian options.
As always in La Plagne, it’s best to ask clearly and early – ideally when booking or at the start of the meal – but I’ve found the team at Le Planté de Bâton to be genuinely helpful and informed.

Service & Atmosphere at Plante du Baton
The staff here are consistently friendly, efficient, and upbeat. Even when the restaurant is packed (which is often around peak lunch hours), they keep things moving smoothly without making you feel rushed.
The atmosphere is buzzy – you’ll hear a mix of English and French spoken around you, and the vibe is always energetic. It’s not a romantic dinner spot, but for a fun, relaxed lunch or dinner with your ski gang or the whole family, it’s exactly what you want.
My Review of Le Plante de Baton
One of the standout features of Le Plante de Baton is its spacious and family-friendly ambience. Ample seating allows families and kids to comfortably settle in and organise their ski gear with plenty of hanging space. It's worth noting, however, that the space may be a bit tight for those with small buggies. So you might have to fold it up – don’t rely on your little one being able to sit or sleep comfortably in a buggy throughout lunch.
Our kids enjoyed the carbonara, which was a generous portion, and the chicken goujons, which were better than the usual nuggets. And the fries seemed homemade, although I’m not sure. But they were delicious, and I stole quite a few!
The service at Le Plante de Baton is so efficient and friendly. The team has all been working here a long time, and the fact that they know one another, the menu, and the resort really helps to make for a smoother dining experience than we’ve experienced in a lot of other places.
The staff are quick on their feet, ensuring that orders are promptly taken and delivered. For families with young children, the option to order kids' meals first is a thoughtful touch, speeding up the dining experience for the little ones. We were also kept well topped up with drinks and desserts, which was perfect.
On the culinary front, my husband can never resist steak tartare, and this one left him thoroughly satisfied. According to him, it ranked among the best he's enjoyed recently in La Plagne. Mainly thanks to the abundance of seasonings and sauces that allowed him to tailor the dish to his taste.
To cap off the dining experience on a sweet note, the hot chocolate at Le Plante de Baton deserves a special mention. Rich, velvety, and perfectly indulgent, it adds a delightful finishing touch to a satisfying meal.
And of course, a round of Genepi to set us up for the afternoon! For digestive purposes, of course!
Where to Find Le Plante de Baton
If you find yourself in Plagne Centre, finding the restaurant is a breeze. Skiers can easily glide into the main square, Place du Chaudron. It’s a convenient pitstop on your ski day.
For those not on skis, take the free shuttle bus to Plagne Centre and head into the main shopping centre and out into the square. Le Plante de Baton is only 2 minutes from the bus station. You can also walk in via the internal corridors, so if you want to stay off the snow with little legs, or a pushchair, you can.
The outside terrace is also a great spot to enjoy lunch whilst the kids enjoy sledding on the luge space in Plagne Centre. They are in eyesight – just! – and you can relax a little whilst they have fun.
