ABOUT

Le Bonnet, La Plagne Bellecôte

Looking for a cosy spot to grab a bite or enjoy an après ski drink in La Plagne? Look no further than Le Bonnet, La Plagne. The ethos of “mountain street food’ might sound strange, but it totally works, with a combination of fast food diner and elegant piste-side restaurant. It’s housed in a beautiful wooden chalet building perched atop a large terrace in an excellent people and skier-watching spot in the heart of Bellecôte. The interior is a wonder of high ceilings, huge windows, trees growing indoors, and artistically fabulous lighting sculptures.

The full insider guide to Le Bonnet

Diners in Le Bonnet can enjoy this ambience as they queue to place their order at the counter and collect their food on a plastic tray in the traditional fast food style. Because, yes, Le Bonnet is a self-service fast food restaurant, there is no table service option. This method of service undoubtedly speeds up the dining process and cuts out any time wasted waiting for table service, and the combination of funky decor and self-service meshes together nicely to create a fun atmosphere.

The Ambiance and Atmosphere at Bonnet

Although Le Bonnet is a fast-food, self-service restaurant, it does get busy, and there can be long lines. Bonnet is a big favourite with seasonnaire workers and tourists. The combination of wood quality and fast food equals more time on the slopes with your friends or family.

If you’re looking for drinks only, you can get quick service from the drinks cabin outside. If you’re looking for food service, then you need to head to the main counter indoors. Don’t be alarmed if the line is snaking out of the door. This is often the case during busy weeks and in the peak lunch hours, 1230 – 2 pm, but the line moves fast. You’ll order and then get given a buzzer to take to your table, which will alert you when your order is ready. Drinks will be given to you when you order and pay.

TOP TIP: When you arrive, if it’s busy, bag a table before heading up to order. Leave the kids to chill out whilst you join the queue. Whilst there is a lot of seating outside, indoor seating is limited, and it fills up fast.

Bonnet menu and food options

The Bonnet menu is a refreshing change from the classic Savoyard in most La Plagne restaurants. The menu is very simple, offering burgers, hot dogs, pasta, and hot snacks. Everything is served in paper wraps or boxes, and you can grab sauces from the self-service dispensers to the right of the sales counter.  But Mcdonald's food it is not. These burgers are the real deal, hearty sized and made from quality ingredients which sets them apart from any old burger and chips (the chips incidentally are awesome).

You’ve got a choice of beef, chicken, or veggie burger, or go all out and try the Gorgeous burger, which is a double beef, double cheeseburger feast. My favourite is the Never Fly chicken burger, and my husband always has the Mea Culpa burger. My two boys are 4 and 6, and a portion of chips each is big enough for both of them.

They start at 8.50€ for a burger, but you can bundle together a meal with [burger/hot dog] + chips + drink for about 13+€.

Le Bonnet Ambience and Atmosphere

The burger and chips fast food vibe is perfect for a quick lunch stop on a busy ski day, but if you fancy hanging out a little longer and relaxing a little, I suggest taking a seat on the large outdoor terrace. There is ample seating spread around the front and side of the restaurant, all with excellent views out over the pistes and down to the Colloses, Blanchet, and Arpette chairlifts. Order a beer, wine, coffee, or hot chocolate from the terrace bar, and if you’re feeling particularly classy, you can enjoy a classic French apero platter with or without wine for an après ski treat.

Relax on the large terrace and watch the busy staff coming and going in their funky Bonnet branded clothing, denim, and down jackets that will make you wish you wore a uniform that cool. If you want to be part of the club, you can purchase Le Bonnet beanies from the bar for around 15€ in some seriously vibrant colours.

Le Bonnet Après Ski Events and Entertainment

Lunch is served daily in Le Bonnet until 3 pm, and then the vibe very much turns into an après ski party! And whilst I must have visited Le Bonnet more than any other restaurant this winter – it’s a big favourite with my kids! I have never actually made it to après ski at Bonnet. This is really quite criminal because every evening from about 4 pm, the vibe in Bonnet changes up, with less of a fast-food restaurant vibe and more of an après ski on the piste party.

The après party is daily, but the afternoons that really take off are the evenings when Le Bonnet hosts local DJs. The music is turned up loud, and you can hear the après party at Bonnet as you ski down into Bellecôte. The DJ après parties are when the seasonnaires will flock to Bonnet, bringing a real party feel. Check the Bonnet social media to see what’s happening and when.

How to get to Le Bonnet

Le Bonnet is easily accessible on skis. It’s located just up above the Bellecôte snow front, facing down towards the other Bellecôte bars and restaurants. If you’re skiing, then you can drop down from Belle Plagne on the blue pistes. If you’re coming over from Plagne Centre, then the pistes from the Bergerie or Colorado lift into Belecôte are high enough to traverse across to Le Bonnet. To head home, the Colossus chairlift will close between 430 pm and 5 pm, depending on the month. But if you do miss the last lift, you can get the bus back to Plagne Centre and on to the other villages.

If you are on food, then pedestrians can walk up from Bellecôte quite easily to get to Bonnet. And to head home, it’s a simple walk back to the middle of Bellecôte. You can then get the free bus back to Plagne Centre and the other villages.
