My experience white water rafting near La Plagne
One of the reasons I feel confident recommending white water rafting is because I've done it myself with a group of friends during their summer holiday in La Plagne.
We chose one of the shorter rafting trips as we had a group of teenagers with us, and it turned out to be the perfect introduction. It had plenty of exciting rapids to get everyone laughing and working together, but it never felt intimidating.
One thing that really surprised me was the weather. We visited on a fairly grey, drizzly day and, if I'm honest, I wondered whether it would spoil the experience.
It didn't.
In fact, once you're on the river you're going to get wet anyway, so the weather really didn't matter! If anything, it made the whole adventure even more memorable. If you're looking for something to do on a rainy summer day in La Plagne, white water rafting is actually one of the best options.
The scenery along the Isère is beautiful, the guides made everyone feel relaxed from the start, and it was one of those activities that had us all talking about it long afterwards.
I'd happily do it again, and it's an experience I'd recommend to families with older children, groups of friends or anyone looking to add a little adventure to their summer holiday.
Jen's Tip: Don't let a bit of rain put you off. You're going to get soaked anyway, and rafting is just as much fun – if not more so! – on a cloudy day. If the weather isn't perfect, it can actually be the ideal time to head to the river while other visitors are changing their plans.

What to expect on your rafting trip
Of course, the experience varies from trip to trip. Also depending on how long the excursion is and whether it's a beginner route or advanced. But typically, for the AN easier route, the descent takes about 2 hours, including 1 hour on the water. The adventure begins at the rafting base, where you'll gear up in the changing rooms.
After getting dressed, the guide will give you a briefing on the activity ahead. Then the rafts are launched right in front of the base to take off on a thrilling 1-hour descent through the Centron gorges. At the end of the descent, a shuttle bus will pick you up in Centron and bring you back to the base, a ride of about 10-15 minutes. Once back at the base, you can change and take a shower. If you wish, you can enjoy the base restaurant or picnic area. Additionally, you can view and purchase photos and videos of your descent.
JENS TOP TIPS: The AN rafting base is next door to the Rive Gauche restaurant, which is a great stop for lunch if you want to relax and enjoy a meal while the kids play on the trampoline and in the garden. And if you’re looking for other activities, then the raft base is on the side of the cycle path, which is a comfortable 5 km cycle, or 5 minute drive to the Macot Plan d’Eau lake where there’s lake swimming, water fountains for the kids to play in, a small man-made beach and several public BBQ pits. We love it there!
