Paradiski 20th Year Anniversary: La Plagne & Les Arcs

In 2003, the French Alps witnessed the birth of the Paradiski ski area. A groundbreaking collaboration between Les Arcs, Peisey-Vallandry, and La Plagne. Over the years, it has evolved into one of the world's largest ski areas, boasting 425 kilometres of interconnected runs. Plus, building a reputation as a snow-sure ski resort, with 70% reaching altitudes above 2,000 meters.

The Paradiski journey kicked off with the introduction of the Vanoise Express. The Vanoise is a cable car that not only linked peaks but set the tone for Paradiski's commitment to building and maintaining one of the largest ski areas in the world. 

Now, in 2023, Paradiski proudly marks its 20th anniversary. With a focus on innovation, the resort continues to uphold its pioneering spirit, transforming the mountains into a dynamic space for diverse encounters.

Mountain-sized art for 20 years Paradiski celebrations

In honour of the Paradiski's milestone anniversary, the celebrated French land artist Saype has received a special invitation to be part of the festivities. Brace yourselves for the unveiling of two monumental frescoes that will grace the snowy slopes of Paradiski.

From Paris to Venice, Dubai to Tokyo, Saype is known globally for his monumental frescoes, leaving their mark, both physically and metaphorically. His “Beyond Walls” project, starting at the foot of the Eiffel Tower and aims to connect people across the continents. Beyond Walls is a testament to his belief that together, humanity can face any challenge. 

Artist Saype stamps his mark on the Paradiski

Saype, unveiled a new ephemeral work on Friday 8th December, painted directly on the snow at an altitude of over 2,000 metres in the mountains of the Paradiski ski area (Savoie, France). The work, called “Encordés”, consists of two creations made using 100% natural, eco-responsible paint made from charcoal. The two frescoes each cover an area of 1,000 m2. 

In this work, two children join forces to climb a mountain and pave the way. Roped together, the two protagonists have to work together. Each cannot advance without the other; they complement each other, joining forces to defy the impossible. The snow-capped mountains, with their majestic and enchanting landscapes, contrast with the environment in which these young adventurers find themselves. Like these children, Paradiski has joined forces to link two valleys and resorts that were once so far apart but are now so close …

As far as Paradiski is concerned, Saype's artistic choice was a natural one because his frescoes are meaningful and tell beautiful stories that have the power to bring people together. His approach, using eco-responsible paint (based on chalk and charcoal) and his conception of art, which aims to have an impact on mentalities and society without impacting nature, was very appealing. It's an approach that has added resonance in the mountains, where climate change is having a very real impact.

From 20th December, skiers will be able to discover the making of photos of the two works in the Vanoise Express cable car stations at Montchavin-Les Coches and Peisey-Vallandry.
