Top Winter Lip Care: The Best Lip Balms for Ski Fans

Winter lip balm skin care essentials

As a ski enthusiast and a mum of two, I understand the struggle of maintaining smooth and moisturised lips during winter adventures. And also doing this whilst trying not to spend a fortune! Well, join me as I share my top product recommendations for the best lip balms and winter skincare. I’ve tried and tested them in the freezing and snowy French Alps, so you know they are good! These lip balms are perfect for those heading on a ski holiday, so let's dive into the world of lip care essentials that will keep you smiling through snow and slopes!

1. Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Intensive Lip Repair Balm for Dry & Chapped Lips

Winter winds can be harsh, but Elizabeth Arden's Intensive Lip Repair Balm is your secret weapon. This is the one recommended to me time and time again by the local French mums. It’s packed with hydrating ingredients, and it's a must-have for combating dry and chapped lips in the cold. This is one that I’ve bought 3 times over and used until the pot is empty! My top tip would be to get the lipstick-style one if you can, it’s much easier to put on on a chairlift without taking your gloves off!

Shop Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Intensive Lip Repair Balm here.

2. Burt's Bees Lip Balm Multipack, Chapstick Lip Balms With Beeswax And Vitamin E

Nature-inspired and cruelty-free, Burt's Bees Lip Balm Multipack is a winter essential. I’m a big fan of this company because of their eco-credentials and low prices. They are well-priced enough that I can get a multi-pack and pop one in the kids’ pockets.

Enriched with beeswax and Vitamin E, it provides long-lasting hydration for your lips. You can also pick up tinted versions for an extra pop if that takes your fancy.

Shop Burt's Bees Lip Balm Multipack here.

3. La Roche Posay – La Roche Posay Cicaplast Lèvres

For intense lip repair, La Roche Posay Cicaplast Lèvres is a game-changer. This French pharmacy favourite is designed to nourish and soothe chapped lips, making it an ideal companion for your ski holiday. This one is an absolute staple for most of my mum-friends here in La Plagne.

4. Crème de La Mer – La Mer The Lip Balm

OK, full disclosure: I’ve never had the opportunity to own this myself (it’s about £45 a pot!), but having borrowed from friends and also tried at various sample stands, I can confirm it is delicious!

Elevate your lip care routine with luxury by indulging in Crème de La Mer's The Lip Balm. Formulated with the brand's legendary Miracle Brothâ„¢, it's a treat for your lips that goes beyond protection.

Shop La Mer The Lip Balm here.

5. Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

Give your lips the pampering they deserve with the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask. This overnight treatment works wonders, leaving your lips soft and supple by morning. Perfect for busy ski days and cosy ski chalet nights. I love something like this that I can slick on and let it work wonders at night, especially as the air is so dry in the mountains.

6. Lucas Papaw Ointment with Lip Applicator

An Australian gem, Lucas Papaw Ointment is a versatile remedy for dry lips. With a convenient lip applicator, it's easy to apply on the go, and it’s perfect for quick chairlifts or après ski applications. I’ve also used Lucas Pawpaw for my under eyes or for any super dry patches of skin after a particularly cold day on the mountain. I slather it on at night and let it do its thing – it’s also cooling for any sunburned skin.

7. Carmex Lip Balm Pot

Carmex Lip Balm Pot is a classic choice for combating winter dryness. Packed with menthol and camphor, I like it for the tingling sensation, which makes me feel like it really is protecting your lips from the elements. However, it’s not for everyone – my kids don’t like it, the flavour is too strong for them. But my husband loves it and gets the male seal of approval.

8. Victoria Beckham – Posh Gloss (clear)

Elevate your lip care routine with a touch of glamour – ok, it’s not the most moisturising, but it does keep them looking fab! Victoria Beckham's Posh Gloss in Clear is a statement piece that also cares for your lips. And you can, of course, get it in various shades for an extra pop of glamour.

9. Elemis Lip Revive

Revitalise your lips with Elemis Lip Revive. This spa-inspired treatment is a luxurious addition to your winter skincare routine. Packed with moisture-locking ingredients, it ensures your lips stay smooth and hydrated during your ski adventures. I often use this at night and pack it on my lips just before bed to have a little extra moisture boost while I sleep!

10. Typology Lip Oil and Lip Mask

This French brand brings you a duo that will become your go-to for combating winter dryness. I love Typology. All the products are vegan and cruelty-free, and they are BCord registered. The nourishing Typology Lip Oil and Lip Mask are fab, either separately or combined. I’ve been using the lip mask for almost a year and have ended up using it all the time as a lip balm. The tube lasts forever! For the lip oil, I went for the rose tint, and it’s a subtle pop.

Kiehl’s is such a crowd-pleaser! And the Kiehl's Lip Balm #1 Cranberry is spiced with a little winter flavour. This limited edition brings the nourishing goodness of the classic Lip Balm #1 with a hint of cranberry flavour. Keep your lips merry and bright this winter.
