Alpy review: cheap ski hire in La Plagne, plus an extra 5% off

Alpy review: is this the cheapest ski hire in La Plagne?

Ski hire is one of those costs that creeps up on you. Kit out a family of five for a week in resort, and it can cost as much as a few nights’ accommodation. So when I was choosing a ski hire partner for this winter, price came first.

Alpy is my ski hire partner for winter 2026/27, because it’s the cheapest way I’ve found to rent skis in La Plagne. You book online with a local rental shop, for up to 65% off the shop’s in-store price. And with my code THATSLAPLAGNE, you get an extra 5% off on top.

Here’s how Alpy works, real La Plagne prices, which shops you can book and the family questions I’d want answered first.

How much can you save? Real La Plagne prices

To see how good the discounts really are, I priced up 6 days of adult ski hire at Robino 3R in Plagne Centre for two different weeks:

Adult, 6 daysIn-store priceOnline, Christmas weekOnline, mid-January
Blue skis (beginner)€77€57.75€46.20
Red skis (intermediate)€97€72.75€62.08
Black skis (advanced)€120€90€78
Boots (add-on, online)€41.25€33

That’s 25% off at Christmas, and 40% off for blue skis in January. And my code THATSLAPLAGNE takes off another 5%.

TOP TIP: The biggest discounts are in the quieter weeks and for the earliest bookings, so book as soon as your dates are fixed. Prices change with the shop, the dates and the equipment, and these were checked on 6 November 2026.

Who are Alpy?

Alpy has been around for a while under a different name. It started in Austria in 2006 as Alpinresorts.com and became Alpy.com in August 2025. Today it works with more than 1,150 partner rental shops in around 800 ski resorts.

Alpy doesn’t own any of the shops. It’s a booking site, a bit like Booking.com for ski hire: you compare the local shops, book and pay online, then collect your kit from the shop you chose. Booking ahead online is what unlocks the lower prices, compared with walking into the shop when you arrive.

Which La Plagne ski shops can you book with Alpy?

This is what I like most: there’s an Alpy shop in pretty much every La Plagne village, so you can pick one close to your accommodation or the foot of the slopes. These are the shops listed for La Plagne:

  • Plagne Centre: Robino 3R, Oxygène ski shop and Ski Republic Les Écrins
  • Plagne 1800: Plagne 1800 Sports, Ski Republic Plagne 1800 and Ekosport-rent Les Chalets
  • Plagne Villages: Pierre Leroux Sports
  • Plagne Bellecôte: Ski Republic Plagne Bellecôte Centre and Plagne Ski Bellecôte
  • Belle Plagne: Armand Bérard Sports
  • Montalbert: Sport Passion 73
  • Les Coches: Ski Republic Les Coches Centre, Ski Republic Les Coches Wengen and Sportshop Paradiski
  • Montchavin: Ski Republic Montchavin Village and Ski Republic Montchavin Les 3 Glaciers
  • Champagny-en-Vanoise: Alpina Ski Shop and Belvédère Sports

Shops can join or leave, so check the live list when you book. Not sure which village you’re in? My La Plagne ski rental directory has every shop on a map.

How to book Alpy, step by step

  1. Go to Alpy and choose La Plagne and your village.
  2. Pick a shop near your accommodation, and add your rental dates.
  3. Add each person, with their age and ski level. Kids are booked by age group: 0 to 6, 7 to 12 and 13 to 17.
  4. Choose skis or a snowboard for each person, then add boots and a helmet. The skis are graded by colour, from blue skis for beginners to black and “diamond” skis for strong skiers.
  5. Decide if you want damage and theft protection.
  6. Enter THATSLAPLAGNE in the promo code box for your extra 5% off, then pay.
  7. Take your booking confirmation and photo ID to the shop. You can collect your kit from 4pm the day before your hire starts.

TOP TIP: Collect your kit the afternoon you arrive, so you’re ready to go first thing. It saves a morning queue in the shop when the kids are desperate to get on the slopes!

Family questions answered

Can I rent ski helmets for the kids?

Yes. Helmets are an add-on for each person when you book. I’d always recommend a helmet for children.

Will the kids’ boots fit?

You give each person’s details when you book, and the shop fits the boots when you collect. If the first pair isn’t right, the shop will try another size. For little ones, go when they’re not tired or hungry!

Can I change our equipment once we’re in resort?

That depends on the shop. Some La Plagne shops show a “Change material” benefit on Alpy, meaning you can swap your kit. If you think you might want to upgrade, choose one of those.

Should I add damage and theft protection?

It’s optional, and it covers breakage and theft (not losing your skis!). Without it, you’re responsible for the cost of repairs or replacing stolen kit. Check whether your travel insurance or a Carré Neige already covers rented equipment.

What if our plans change?

Alpy advertises free cancellation and changes, but the conditions depend on the booking, so read the cancellation terms before you pay. There’s also a flexible cancellation add-on at checkout if you want peace of mind.

Do they deliver to our apartment?

Not in La Plagne at the moment. You collect your kit from the shop, so choosing one close to your accommodation really helps.

My take: why Alpy is my ski hire partner this winter

For me, it comes down to three things:

  • Price. Up to 65% off in-store prices is hard to beat, and my extra 5% stacks on top.
  • Choice. There’s an Alpy shop in almost every La Plagne village, so you don’t have to trek across the resort in ski boots.
  • Familiar shops. You still get your kit and your fitting from a local shop, so you get local advice when you collect.

Alpy suits families on a budget and anyone who likes to have everything booked before they arrive. If you want a specific shop that isn’t on Alpy, or you need ski delivery, have a look at the other options below.
