Chalet du Plan Bois (Chez Laurette) Is a Must-Try for Food-Loving Skiers in La Plagne

Dining Differently in La Plagne
You’re in La Plagne, on a long-awaited family ski holiday. The kids are loving ski school, you’ve finally got your ski legs back. And now you’re hungry. But not just for any mountain meal. You want something that feels like a treat. Somewhere that celebrates the region and doesn’t serve everything with chips.
I live in La Plagne full-time with my family, so I’ve eaten at my fair share of slope-side restaurants. This winter, we tried something a little different: lunch at Chalet du Plan Bois (Chez Laurette). If you’re looking for refined Savoyard cuisine in a peaceful, scenic setting with a grown-up vibe, read on; this one’s for you.
What Makes Chalet du Plan Bois Special?
Chalet du Plan Bois, also known as Chez Laurette, sits quietly at 1,800 metres between Les Coches and Montchavin on the slopes. It’s not flashy or overly polished, but it’s full of soul. Think traditional wood-clad dining rooms, vintage alpine décor, and the smell of something delicious wafting from the kitchen.
They welcome you in ski socks or slippers (you can swap out your boots at the door), and straight away it feels like being invited into someone’s home rather than a typical ski restaurant. It’s a calm, warm atmosphere, ideal if you want to take a break from the bustle of the pistes.

Family-Friendly – But More for the Grown-Ups
Let’s talk honestly. Yes, Chalet du Plan Bois is family-friendly in the sense that children are welcome and catered for. Our son had a beautifully cooked chicken breast with mushroom sauce, potatoes and seasonal vegetables. It was well-prepared, fresh and delicious. But he’s eight and would’ve much rather had chicken nuggets. This just isn’t that kind of place.
So while it is technically family-friendly, I’d say it’s best suited to families with older children or adults looking to enjoy a peaceful meal with locally sourced ingredients. It's not somewhere you want to rush through with hangry toddlers who just want chips.
Accessibility – How to Get There (Even Without Skis)
The location feels secluded in the best possible way, but it’s surprisingly easy to reach. If you’re on skis, you can drop in via the Mont Blanc piste between the Plan Bois and Lac Noir lifts.
Not skiing? No problem. You can take the Lac Noir gondola from Les Coches and follow the snow-covered track for a 10–15 minute walk through the forest. Snowshoers and cross-country skiers pass by often, and it’s a lovely, gentle route.
For wheelchair users, access is possible with help, especially in good snow conditions. But it’s worth noting there aren’t adapted toilets on site.
My Honest Experience at Chalet du Plan Bois
Let’s get to the food. I enjoyed a Savoyard pear and goat’s cheese salad. The cheese comes from the farm nearby, drizzled in local mountain honey and topped with walnuts from Grenoble. It was sweet, salty, crunchy, soft- everything you want in a mountain salad.
My husband had rump steak with a ceps sauce that was rich and earthy, served with perfectly cooked seasonal vegetables and golden rosti-style potatoes.
Our son had the chicken dish, which again was high quality, just not quite the easy food he had in mind.
Then came dessert. I had the rice pudding, made from the farm’s own milk and topped with warm caramel sauce. Simple but delicious. My son went for the Fontainebleau with raspberry and violet jam, also made at the local farm and for sale in the restaurant. He wasn’t wild about it, but I had a taste and loved the floral, creamy contrast.
Private Dining at Altitude
If you’re planning something special, a birthday, a big family lunch, or even just a get-together with friends, you can book a private dining space. For €48 per adult and €29 per child, you get a private area (either inside or out), your own menu and around two hours to enjoy it. They often have weddings here in the summer, and I must say it’s a beautiful setting.
You can book this directly through their official website, and it’s a brilliant option for groups who want something a little more intimate.
Service, Pricing and How to Book
Service is personal and warm. Isabelle, the owner, makes every guest feel like they’re part of her extended alpine family. The slippers at the door are a lovely touch, but it’s the attentive staff, relaxed pace, and thoughtful touches that really make the experience shine.
As for pricing, it’s not cheap, but it also feels well-priced for such local, home-cooked meals. For what you get—especially considering the quality of ingredients and the setting, it’s excellent value.
Booking is very much recommended. The restaurant is small and popular, especially on sunny days. You can book by phone on +33 6 09 34 37 88, or for private events, use their online form.
Good to Know: Chalet du Plan Bois in Summer
Yes, they’re open in the summer too! Hikers and mountain bikers can enjoy the same high-quality meals on the terrace or opt for a takeaway picnic to enjoy further along the trails. It’s a favourite spot for summer hike-and-lunch days out and a brilliant way to experience the area outside of ski season.
