Planning a ski adventure and you're flying with EasyJet? Excitement is in the air, but before you hit those ski slopes, it's essential to know the ins and outs of flying with your ski gear. EasyJet offers some handy guidelines to make sure your skis or snowboard arrive safely at your snowy destination.

Before we get started...

Ok, before diving into the EasyJet ski allowance guidelines. We first need to do a quick recap of the standard EasyJet luggage allowance guidelines.

EasyJet includes 1 small piece of luggage for your cabin bag. This must fit under your seat, i.e., a backpack, not a wheely hand luggage bag. You can pay extra for a large cabin bag or opt for speedy boarding, which includes a larger cabin bag.

For hold luggage, you can book a small 15 kgs, mid-range 23 kgs or larger 32 kgs.

The reason why I have not listed the prices here is because they change from flight route to route and also the time when you book.

So, find out all about the EasyJet standard luggage allowances here.

1. One piece per customer

First things first, EasyJet allows each customer to purchase one piece of sports equipment. Whether it's skis, a snowboard, or any other sports gear, you're all set to bring your essentials along for the ride. You can add a ski bag to your booking on the “manage bookings” tab when making your Easyjet booking.

2. No limit for small gear

Here's the perk: there's no limit to the number of small sports equipment items you can bring, as long as you stick to one per person. So, if you've got a few smaller pieces of gear, like helmets or poles, you can pack them without worry.

3. Large sports equipment and the limit

EasyJet takes care to ensure that everyone's gear fits smoothly into the hold. For larger sports equipment, there's a limit. Skis or snowboards are classed as small sports equipment if they are under 20kgs and large if they are over 20kgs.

A 20kg piece of sports luggage will cost you £37 to check-in. BUT you will get charged an additional £12 per kilo for every additional kg. To avoid this, you can either:

  1. Add the additional weight to your hold suitcase, remember, you can pool the weight of the 2 bags (explained below).
  2. Book in your ski bag as a large sports bag, which will cost £45 for up to 32 kgs. And with this weight allowance, you can easily fit several pairs of skis or boards into one bag. A good option for families with multiple pairs or skis.

You can purchase a maximum of six items of large sports equipment online for any booking. Even if you're travelling with more than six ski enthusiasts, this rule holds. However, if you need to bring along more than six items, no sweat. Just reach out to EasyJet's Customer Services Team, and they'll check if there's available space to accommodate your extra gear.

4. Pooling your weight allowances

EasyJet makes travelling with both sports equipment and standard luggage a breeze. You can combine the total weight allowances for your sports gear and hold luggage. The only catch is that no single item can weigh more than 32kg.

Let's break it down with an example: If EasyJet grants you a total weight allowance of 52kg, you can divvy it up however you like. For instance, you could bring hold luggage weighing 31kg and sports equipment weighing 21kg.

5. Ski boots on board EasyJet?

Pack your boots into your ski bag, or bring them on board as your carry-on item (you will have had to purchase a Large Cabin Bag or Upfront / Extra Legroom seat that includes a Large Cabin Bag). Checking in a boot bag separately will count as another piece of hold luggage, which will cost extra.

6. How sustainable is EasyJet?

We all know flying is not the most sustainable way of travelling and that taking the train or public transport options is better. However, it's great to know what our airlines are doing to operate more eco-friendly.

Looking through the EasyJet sustainability policies, a few things jump out. Similar to Jet2, they have committed to aim for net zero carbon emissions by 2025. However, when Jet2 is automatically offsetting all passenger's carbon emissions per flight, with EasyJet, passengers need to opt into this and pay for it themselves.

An interesting point is that they are working with partners, including Airbus, Rolls-Royce, GKN Aerospace, Cranfield Aerospace Solutions, and Wright Electric, to develop better aircraft and engines.

You can read more about the EasyJet sustainability policy here.
