Situated in La Plagne Montalbert, Le Forperet is not your average mountain eatery. It's conveniently located for skiers, right on the side of the blue Le Gentil ski run. So easily accessible for skiers. However, they also have a free shuttle bus that runs between the restaurant and Montalbert, making it equally accessible for non-skiers. When we were there, there were also lots of people on snow shoes who had taken a snowy Alpine walk up from Montalbert to enjoy a long sunny lunch on the Forperet terrace.
The setting is a blend of rustic charm and natural beauty, offering breathtaking mountain views and an ambience that’s both relaxing and invigorating. This traditional chalet, set against a forest backdrop, is a beautiful spot to unwind and enjoy a meal.
A Menu That Celebrates Alpine Cuisine
Le Forperet’s menu is a love letter to Savoyard cuisine. The dishes are prepared with local ingredients, some of which come straight from their mini farm. The fondue is the star of the show, especially their unique cider-cheese blend. It shouldn’t be missed – although I wouldn’t recommend fondue for lunch if you plan to ski afterwards! Maybe come back in the evening for a fondue night. Their tartiflette is another highlight, a testament to its authenticity and popularity. The menu also caters to a variety of tastes, ensuring that everyone in the family finds something to enjoy.
I had a lasagne with spinach and ricotta, Kit had an entrecote steak and chips, and the boys had 2 kids’ menus: sausage and chips for both. The portion sizes were good, and the food was yummy. Looking around at the other diners near us, the daily specials look great, and the Croque Monsieur is what I’ll be trying next time!
The kids had ice creams on their kid’s menu and cornetto-style cones, which was a nice change to the usual plastic tubs you get in most kids’ menus here. And I, of course, finished up with a hot chocolate, which was great. I would have sampled the cafe gourmand dessert, but I just didn’t have space!

I was also impressed to see that the toilets were specifically built to allow wheelchair access. Plus, they had a baby changing table! These things might seem commonplace to you. But up in the mountains, it’s really hard to find good, reliable facilities like this.

Le Forperet excels in making families feel at home. The mini farm is a delightful addition that not only supplies the kitchen but also provides entertainment for kids. My boys spent ages meeting the cows, donkeys, ponies, rabbits, chickens, and Mr pig! There is also lots of outside space away from the ski slopes, which is perfect for them to run off any energy they might still have. And an outdoor swing, which my youngest spent ages on.
It’s these thoughtful touches that make Le Forperet more than just a restaurant; it’s a place where families can create lasting memories.

- First, booking in advance is recommended, especially for their special dishes like the tartiflette. If you are visiting in the evening, booking ahead is necessary; you can’t just drop by. Make sure you book before 4 pm each day. There is a free shuttle from Montalbert. Call Le Forperet on 0033 (0)4 79 55 51 27.
- You can book a taxi-piste basher and Sayoyard evening menu, which is 60€ per adult, 29€ per child for the return journey, and then fondue raclette or pierrade and dessert.
- Don’t forget to check the daytime shuttle bus schedules if you’re not skiing in.
- Lastly, take a moment to enjoy the view – it’s truly spectacular and adds so much to the dining experience.
