What Are Galettes?
Before diving into the specifics of Chez Marie, let’s talk about galettes. These savoury crêpes are made from buckwheat flour, giving them a distinctive earthy flavour and texture. Unlike sweet crêpes, galettes are traditionally filled with savoury ingredients like cheese, ham, eggs, or seafood. They originate from Brittany, where they’re often paired with a glass of dry Breton cider. At Chez Marie, you’ll find authentic galettes and cidre that stay true to these Breton roots – perfect for an après-ski treat or a full family meal.
It's what also puts Chez Marie on the list of top crêperie places in La Plagne!
Family-Friendly Dining with a Local Touch
Marie has created a space that feels like home. The restaurant’s rustic Alpine décor is inviting, and the menu is packed with options that both kids and adults will love. One of the standout features for families is the pierrade hot stone experience. Perfect for sharing, this interactive way of cooking allows you to grill meat and vegetables at the table.
What’s even better? There’s an option for kids to enjoy their own pierrade portion for less than half the price, when dining with an adult who is ordering pierrade, making it a brilliant choice for family dining.
For younger diners, the kids' menu is exceptional value. It includes a main dish (like chicken nuggets and chips), a dessert (ice cream or a crêpe), and a drink—all for a reasonable price. During our visit, Marie also provided colouring books and crayons, which kept our boys entertained and made the experience even more enjoyable for us parents.
Accessibility for All
Chez Marie is conveniently located in the heart of Plagne Centre. It’s easy to get to on foot – not one to ski into. If you’re driving, there’s parking nearby, but it can get busy, so plan accordingly. Alternatively, the free resort shuttle bus stops less than five minutes away, making it a hassle-free option for families.
The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, but it’s worth noting that the toilets are located outside in a communal corridor. They are spacious and clean, with wheelchair accessibility. But don’t include a baby changing table – something to keep in mind if you’re dining with an infant.
Top Recommendations: Savoury Crêpes and Breton Cider
If you’re visiting Chez Marie, their galettes are a must-try. Made with traditional buckwheat flour and cooked to perfection, they’re authentic to the Breton way of dining. Pair them with a glass of dry Breton cider, served in a traditional ceramic cup, for a truly classic experience.
During our visit, I enjoyed a seafood galette filled with prawns and scallops, which was absolutely delicious. My husband and friends opted for the pierrade, which came with a generous portion of meats, crispy home-style fries, and an array of flavourful sauces, including caper sauce, peppercorn sauce, homemade tomato sauce, and garlic aioli.
For dessert, I couldn’t resist a Snickers crêpe. It was every bit as indulgent as it sounds, with the perfect balance of gooey caramel, chocolate, and crunch. A friend ordered the banana split, which was massive and just as delicious—definitely a treat to share or tackle solo if you’re feeling ambitious! My kids enjoyed an icecream for dessert which comes with a crunch bit of crepe garnish – a hit with our baby girl!

Dietary Requirements and Options
Chez Marie is a great option if you’re managing dietary requirements. The buckwheat flour used in galettes is naturally gluten-free (though cross-contamination could be a consideration for those with severe allergies). The menu includes vegetarian options, and the staff are accommodating to specific requests. If you have any allergies or special requirements, don’t hesitate to ask – they’re happy to help. I would say that Chez Marie is one of the best options for a gluten-free menu or vegetarian options.
Service That Makes You Feel at Home
Marie and her team go above and beyond to make every guest feel welcome, its very much a family friendly restaurant. The service is friendly, efficient, and accommodating. Whether you’re a large family group or a couple looking for a quiet meal, you’ll feel well looked after. Marie’s background as a local mum shines through in the way she’s created a relaxed, family-oriented environment where everyone feels at ease. One of my boys fell asleep at the table and she didn't bat an eyelid when he stretched out on the bench to catch 40 winks before his dessert arrived.
Pricing and Value for Money
Chez Marie strikes a great balance between quality and affordability – no small feat in a ski resort! The kids’ menu, as mentioned, is a steal, and adult portions are generous without being overwhelming.
For a value-packed experience, the pierrade is a must. My husband shared one with friends during our visit and raved about the quantity and quality of the meats, the crispy home-style fries, and the flavourful sauces. And the kids' 1/2 price option makes it perfect for families.
