Location & Insider Tips
Set in a peaceful woodland spot, Chalet du Bois Melay is just 400 m from the blue “Loup” slope and ski lift, just a short five-minute stroll along a gentle path. It’s the same distance to the local shops, ski hire, or the ESF ski school.
Here’s my insider advice: don’t bother joining the crowds at the hire shop. Instead, book ski hire for delivery on your arrival day and have the ski tech fit the whole family right there in your living room. Far more relaxed and so much quicker.
For lessons, I’d book with Oxygène Ski School and ask for their complimentary shuttle service to collect you from the chalet and take you straight to your meeting point. If you’ve hired your gear from Oxygène, you can even leave it at their shop in Plagne Centre. Although with the chalet’s spacious boot room and ski storage, you might prefer to keep everything right where you are. Either way, you’ll start your ski days calm, comfortable, and ready to go.
Catered or Non-Catered? Your Choice

If you’ve been searching for ski accommodation online, Chalet du Bois Melay might not pop up straight away. Firstly, it’s privately owned and run by Elise rather than being part of a big tour operator’s portfolio. So you won’t see it on every holiday booking site.
Its location in La Plagne 1800 is peaceful and tucked away at the top of the village. I’ll admit, I was sceptical at first because it’s just off the road (opposite the Decathlon store). But once inside, surrounded by trees and huge windows, you’d never know. You can’t even see the road.
And no, it doesn’t have that “ski straight from the door” label, but you are only a five-minute walk from the nearest slope and the free shuttle bus stop is just below the chalet meaning you can be in Plagne 1800, Bellecôte, or Plagne Centre in minutes.
