The Take-off
Then it's time to head out to the real thing. You'll walk through to the main lift line for the Glacier Gondola, where you'll wait to the side for the AeroLive gondola to come in. You need to move fairly quickly as you have to clip on before the gondola starts to make its journey. But don't worry, there are several of the La Plagne team there to help you out and make sure everything is secure.
There are a maximum of 6 people in the AeroLive, and there is no instructor, which surprised me. I thought there would be someone supervising you in the gondola. But as we began the ascent, it was clear that that wasn't really necessary.
The Ride
As the gondola begins its ascent from Roche de Mio, you’ll immediately feel the fresh mountain air rushing around you. With no windows to block the view, this is a true bird’s-eye perspective of La Plagne’s ski area, valleys, and glaciers. It’s a surreal feeling — one that’s equal parts exhilarating and awe-inspiring.
I was really blown away by how much more dramatic this ascent was than simply riding the normal gondola bubble. The views are incredible and I felt truly connected with the mountains.
The ride up lasts about 11 minutes, the same length as a typical gondola ride. Remember that there is a mid-station on the ride that you aren't getting off at. You ride the AeroLive all the way to the top of the glacier.
Live 3000 – The Summit Experience
When you arrive at Live 3000 (3,080m), the La Plagne team will help you unclip and take your harnesses off. You're then free to explore the summit and soak in the incredible views that come with being at 3080m above sea level. From here, you can take in breathtaking, uninterrupted views of the French Alps, stretching as far as Mont Blanc on a clear day.
Sixième Ciel Café
