My Experience at Rive Gauche
Rive Gauche is a delightful spot for families visiting La Plagne. It’s run by Alex and Coralie who also run Les Inversens restaurant in La Plagne – another amazing restaurant in La Plagne.
My family and I had great times at Rive Gauche. Enjoying friendly service that, while a bit slow during peak times, made for a relaxed dining experience. It's definitely worth booking ahead to secure a table.
We attended a special event with a set menu that included delicious starters like smoked trout and paté en croute. For the main course, we had a choice between beef Wellington and prawns, both of which were excellent. The dessert was a highlight with a delicious strawberry tiramisu that the entire table enjoyed. The kids were happy with their options of steak haché (burger) or chicken nuggets and chips.
There is also a great cocktail menu, beer and wine selection. We enjoyed a selection of all of them! The virgin piña coladas were a favourite and the crisp rosé house wine was a perfect summer lunch accompaniment.
Rive Gauche Ambience
The ambience at Rive Gauche is one of its standout features. While the indoor seating area is lovely, the best part is the outdoor seating. Most of the outdoor space is covered, allowing you to enjoy your meal in any weather. The tables are spread around a large, beautifully landscaped area filled with flowers, bushes, and trees, offering a sense of privacy at most of the tables.
From many of the tables, you can catch glimpses of the Isère River and watch white-water rafters navigating the rapids. There's also a nearby cycle path that runs from Bourg St Maurice to Aime, making it a perfect spot for cyclists to stop and refuel. Also, the Macot pump track is about 50 metres away, so we will also often stop here for ice creams after the kids have lapped the track on their bikes or scooters.

Is Rive Gauche Family Friendly?
Absolutely! Rive Gauche is very family-friendly. The restaurant has a large restroom equipped with changing tables and plenty of space for toddlers and babies. There's also an outdoor playground for the kids with a small climbing space, swing and slide for younger kids and a large trampoline for older kids. Plus, there’s also a pétanque court for the adults, ensuring everyone has something to enjoy.
At the tables, there’s lots of space for pushchairs and buggies. When we booked, we also mentioned that in a table of 14, there would be 7 kids – plus 2 babies in pushchairs! So Alex and Coraline were able to reserve us a table out of the way and with space to park the buggies comfortably.
Events at Rive Gauche
Rive Gauche regularly hosts music and events, making it a lively place to visit. You can book for lunch or specific evenings to enjoy live music or DJ sets along with your meal. We attended the Fête de la Musique, an annual event in France, and had a fantastic time with great food and an upbeat atmosphere.

Rive Gauche is only open in summer and closed throughout the winter. Their opening hours are for lunches and then for the occasional evenings.

How to Get to Rive Gauche
Rive Gauche is in the larger La Plagne region, but is actually in the valley, in Macot. It’s next to the AN Rafting white-water base at Les Iles de Macot, 73210 Macot La Plagne. This makes it an ideal spot for a meal before or after a rafting adventure on the Isère River. The restaurant is easily accessible by car, and there is ample parking available.
