La Plagne news: new restaurants for 2024/25

Aerial view of a bustling ski resort scene with skiers and snowboarders gathered near a mountaintop lodge surrounded by snow-covered peaks. The lodge has outdoor seating filled with red lounge chairs, and nearby ski lifts and gondola stations serve the busy slope area.

The ski lifts are about to start whirring, and I can practically hear the sound of ski boots clicking into bindings – winter in La Plagne is here! While there aren’t brand-new restaurants opening this season, there’s still plenty to get excited about. Several well-loved La Plagne restaurants are under new management, which means fresh menus, new vibes, and plenty of reasons to rediscover old favourites.

As someone who calls La Plagne home, I spend a lot of my winter indulging in leisurely mountain lunches with my two kids or stealing away for the occasional date night with my husband. I can’t wait to share what’s changing in the La Plagne restaurant scene this year.

Some of these restaurants are already on my must-visit list, and I’ll update my reviews throughout the season as I try them. If you beat me to it, drop your thoughts in the comments – I’d love to know what you think!

La Plagne restaurants 2024/25

As we gear up for the winter wonderland, let's shine a spotlight on the newest additions to La Plagne's culinary landscape, promising a symphony of flavours and experiences.

1. Roche de Mio

Location: Top of the Roche de Mio Gondola
How to get there: Skiers and pedestrians can reach this restaurant. Making it a great spot for skiers and non-skiers or beginner skiers to meet up for lunch. Just take the Roche de Mio Gondola from either Bellecôte or the Belle Plagne mid-station.
Status: Under new ownership and taken on by the family that used to own and run Les Verdons Sud.

A cozy alpine chalet with an outdoor dining area featuring red and white chairs and snow-covered tables, set against a backdrop of breathtaking snowy mountain peaks under a bright blue sky.

What to Expect:

  • Central Hub: I am very excited by this as I always found the Roche de Mio restaurant and bit lacking. The location and views are incredible, but the food and service were quite basic.
  • Fresh Beginnings: The new family have spent the summer scrubbing, cleaning, and polishing the restaurant, and I can't wait to see what we get from Julie, Mikel, Laura and Manu.
  • Expect to see: We know that the restaurant will stay in a similar style this winter. So a self-service set up, plus the snack window outside. However, I expect the service and quality to be highly improved.
  • Stay Updated: As soon as I see the menu, I’ll be updating this page and doing a full review of the Roche de Mio restaurant. You can find my existing review here and check back in when I have the inside scoop!

2. Le Vache Rouge / Croq'Neige

Location: Plagne Centre
How to get there: Centrally located in Plagne Centre, easily accessible by both pedestrians and skiers. Pedestrians can get to Croq'Neige along the snowfront or indoors, using the internal corridors connecting all the shops and restaurants.
Status: Under new ownership and taken on by the family that runs Croq-Neige next door.

A large red cow statue marked “La Vache Rouge Restaurant” stands in front of a ski-in/ski-out restaurant with red-themed outdoor seating in La Plagne.

What to Expect:

  • Central Hub: La Vache Rouge is no more. It has come as an extension of Croq'Neige, the well-established snack stop next door. Already established as part of the hub in the heart of Plagne Centre, I'm excited to see what the new Croq'Neige will bring to the snow front.
  • Fresh Beginnings: The Croq'Neige team took over ownership of La Vache Rouge last winter, and ran them both separately. However, this winter 24/25 both sides of the restaurant are now serving the same menu – the classic Croq'Neige menu.
  • Expect to see quick service for simple but tasty fast food. Everything from steak sandwiches, burgers and pizzas to tartiflette and the menu of the day is a great favourite.
  • Stay Updated: The decoer hasn't changed at all – but the big red cow is no more! I’m sure there will be a super warm welcome from the owners, already a big part of the La Plagne scene.

3. Le Bonnet

Location: Bellecôte
How to get there: Up above the snow front in Bellecôte. Skiers can get there as they drop into Bellecôte from Belle Plagne or come over from Plagne Centre. Pedestrians can walk up from the Bellecôte snow front.
Status: Under new ownership for this winter.

A modern, glass-front mountain restaurant called Le Bonnet with a yellow and black logo, located on a snowy slope with skiers gathering outside.

What to Expect:

  • Central Hub: Le Bonnet is well established as a great quality, quick lunch stop. It's perfectly located for skiers heading in all directions. Don't be put off by the large lines when you arrive. It moves quickly, and the food is fast and good quality.
  • Après Ski Party: Bonnet always had some great après parties. But rather than being regular, they were occasional as there was an event planned. This winter, it seems like there is a house DJ, and there will be much more regular après sets.
  • Stay Updated: As soon as I see the new service and menu, I’ll update my Bonnet review. So watch this space! I don’t expect the decor to change at all. And I do expect the bar and food service to be similar, if not the same.

4. Expedition

Location: Aime 2000
How to get there: In the main gallery in Aime 2000. Pedestrians can take the Telemetro gondola from Plagne Centre, and skiers can ski up to the outdoor terrace on the Aime 2000 snowfront.
Status: Owners have parted ways – new chef.

A plated steak dinner featuring a grilled filet served with herb butter, creamy pepper sauce, and garnished with fresh herbs, presented on a white rectangular plate.

What to Expect:

  • New Chef: Expedition was one of my absolute go-to restaurants to recommend to people for a delicious, ever-changing menu. So I'm sad to hear that owners and chef Sam has moved on (fortunately not too far!) but also excited to hear what the remaining owners will be doing. They were working with them over the summer months so I'm hopefully for more of the same from the Expedition team.
  • Expect to see: I expect to see classic Savoyard dishes, with modern twists and lighter, quick dishes for lunchtime.
  • Stay Updated: As soon as I see the new menu and offerings, I will update this existing review of Expedition, Aime 2000.

5. Petit Chaperon Rouge

Location: Plagne 1800
How to get there: Across the slopes from the main Plagne 1800 village. Skiers can ski to the door stop, and pedestrians can cross the slope to get there. It's a good spot for skiers and non-skiers to get to. However, it is difficult to get a buggy or pushchair through the snow.

A gourmet dish with seared filet mignon topped with foie gras and a sprig of rosemary, served with a side of colorful sautéed vegetables and a ramekin of rich sauce.

What to Expect:

  • New Owners: Le Petit Chaperon Rouge was bought this summer (2024) by Ludo, who has run the Dou du Praz restaurant for the last few years. Ludo was running the restaurant this summer, but I wasn't able to visit – the new baby kept me pretty busy! So I am excited to see the menu myself this winter, especially because Petit Chaperon Rouge was one of my top recommendations last winter for those looking for an excellent steak or Côte du Boeuf.
  • Expect to see: I expect to see classic French and Savoyard cuisine, and hopefully, I will still be using the open fireplace to grill and cook meats to perfection.
  • Stay Updated: As soon as I see the new menu and offerings, I will update this existing review of Petit Chaperon Rouge.

6. HO36 – Ho La La

Location: Plagne Centre
How to get there: At the bus stop in Plagne Centre at the foot of the Stade du Slalom. It's not accessible on skis, but a 3-minute walk from the slopes. For pedestrians, it is right on the bus stop's doorstep. Perfect for non-skiers to meet up.

A sunlit dining room at Hostel HO36 in Plagne Centre, with modern wooden tables and chairs, and large windows offering views of snowy buildings and trees outside.

What to Expect:

  • New Chef: I mentioned above that the chef and co-owner from Expedition have moved on. Well, he has moved to the HO36 hostel restaurant, Ho La La.
  • Expect to see: I am very excited by this as Sam is an excellent chef who creates fantastic menus with the most delicious local ingredients. I'm super excited to head here and see what he is creating.
  • Stay Updated: I have not eaten at Ho La La in a long time, so I am excited that it is back on my radar, and I'll be heading here soon this winter to try it out. Watch this space!

7. Le Refuge

Location: Plagne Centre
How to get there: Centrally located in Plagne Centre. Not on the snow front but in the square next to the ice skating rink.
Status: It was sold, but the deal fell through at the last minute…

A traditional raclette setup with a large half-wheel of cheese melting under a heater, ready to be scraped onto a plate below, surrounded by wine glasses and alpine table settings.

What to Expect:

This addition to the list is a bit of a misnomer. Fans of La Plagne will likely know Le Refuge and Pierre, who have run it for a long time. Well, this summer, the news came that it had sold, and I was intrigued to see what the new owners would bring to the table.

Sadly, we heard this week that the deal has fallen through, and the sale was not completed. And as sad as we are that Pierre has not been able to step away as he had planned, we will always be happy to see him in place behind the bar, bringing his excellent service to returning diners year after year.
