ABOUT

Restaurant Ô Tour du Grill

Living in La Plagne for so many winter seasons! It’s exciting when somewhere new opens. This year, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the opening of a new restaurant in La Plagne: Ô Tour du Grill.

I was lucky enough to visit the new La Plagne restaurant over their opening week as we had friends visiting in resort. And I’m so glad we chose here to celebrate and catch up together!

So jump into my full review of where to find Ô Tour du Grill and what to expect from the menus.

Where is Ô Tour du Grill?

Remember the old Chauffe Marcel bar? Well, it has transformed into something better – Ô Tour du Grill. Located on the Lovatiere piste, on the side of the piste between Plagne Centre and Plagne 1800. The transformation from the once lively après ski bar to gastronomic delight is nothing short of magical.

Run by 2 local families, the decoration is a modern twist on chalet design. But instead of kitschy gingham curtains, think of unique wooden signs and metal light fittings.

How to Get There?

If you're on the slopes, you can ski down the Lovatiere piste. It’s a blue piste but quite steep, so better for more confident skiers.

Alternatively, for those non-skiers or people enjoying a more chilled exploration on foot, take the La Plagne shuttle to Plagne Centre and get off at the Lovatiere bus stop. A short 5-10 minute walk along the Lac Vert path, cutting through a snowy forest, brings you to the doorstep. It’s a beautiful walk to get there, adding to the magic of the location.

I will say, if you are going in the evening, the walk home after enjoying the delicious food is much more challenging on a full stomach! It might be tempting to walk back down to Plagne 1800 if this is where you are staying, but it is quite a steep walk, so I would still head back to the bus stop in Plagne Centre and take the bus home.

Unique to Ô Tour du Grill

As you approach the restaurant, the first thing that catches your eye is the Fire Ball outside. Made of cast iron and carved with mythical creatures and scenes, it’s a beacon of warmth against the winter chill. Then, dotted around the terrace are strategically placed fire pits, creating a cosy ambience perfect for sipping drinks and sharing stories.

One unique feature that sets Ô Tour du Grill apart is the lunchtime BBQ pits and grills. Imagine a snowy afternoon, surrounded by friends and family, sharing a delightful barbecue feast. Careful though, you won’t want to carry on skiing afterwards.

Come evening, the atmosphere shifts to a more intimate setting with the a la carte menu that showcases the best of local produce. The chefs believe in cooking meats simply, allowing the quality of the ingredients to shine through. Each dish is a testament to their dedication to perfection.

For those seeking an extraordinary evening, there's an option to privatise the restaurant for special occasions. Imagine having your own curated menu, personalised music, and an exclusive atmosphere – an unforgettable way to celebrate in the heart of La Plagne.

Family-Friendly Atmosphere and Menu

One of the most refreshing aspects of Ô Tour du Grill is its family-friendly atmosphere. As someone who knows the ins and outs of ski resorts, finding a place that caters to both adults and children is a blessing. Especially as the menu is simple and the kid’s menu is a little different to the usual chicken nuggets & chips.

I’ve eaten there in the evening so far, but I’m keen to stop by again during the day with the kids to enjoy a hot chocolate at the fireball together – I think they’ll find it magical.

Ô Tour du Grill Menu

Let's unravel the charm that lies within the pages of the Ô Tour du Grill menu – a delightful fusion of uncomplicated elegance and the finest ingredients. For someone like me, who enjoys the artistry of food, but with a husband who feels the need for large, warming portions of delicious food, the balance here was perfect.

This isn’t a restaurant for the vegans and veggies in resort – sorry folks. Ô Tour du Grill is a paradise for those who revel in the delight of perfectly cooked meats. My husband and I share the perfectly cooked Côte du Boeuf, and fiends had Angus steak, lamb and salted gammon dishes. The focus in all the dishes was on highlighting the true flavors of the meat, a showcase of quality that speaks volumes.

We did also share a variety of the starters, from baked camembert, with local honey and smoked rosemary – delicious and my personal favourite, to a snail casserole and a poached, fluffy egg dish that I’ve never seen my husband eat so quickly – I didn’t get a look it.

There was absolutely no space for a dessert. But not to worry, it just means we have to go back for a second visit.

But I was super pleased to see that local Genepi Arpin was on the menu for a digestif to finish off the meal. And served on the fanciest shot-ski I’ve ever seen!
